Interesting to see that Sonos considers AirPlay as a possible element of their ecosystem: Http://www.sonos.com/airplay Chrobrego's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15230 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98619 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Listening squeezebox music in the living room without any squeezebox hardware!
Yes, but have you seen how they do this? The AirPlay device (Airport Express) gets plugged into the analog in of a Sonos device and that's how that works. You have no integration whatsoever but you need to start playing AirPlay from one App and control all that from another App (Sonos). It's a hack, not more. pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98619 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Yes I was a bit disappointed when I saw the details. At least their marketing aknowledge the need and maybe it is a first step to something better. They did this already three years ago when AirPlay was still called AirTunes. [slim] Napster Not Playing
Hi All I wonder of someone could help please. I have recently installed the Napster app and opened and account. When I select a track to play in Napster, my squeeze box screen displays the song that I have selected and the time bar shows it is playing, however no sound is being played. This problem is apparent on both my Duet and Boom when controlled either by the Duet handset, the Boom directly, or via the android app on my connected phone. please help thanks Barry allgonepetetong's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59908 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98744 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

ccaudle wrote: Switching supplies can make life hard. Assuming a reasonably modern switcher the basic switching rate would probably be somewhere around 100kHz-200kHz, with harmonics extending into a few MHz assuming it is switching with fast edges to improve efficiency. The basic switching rate would probably fall into the right range that if it modulates the clock, the lower modulation sidebands will fall in the middle of the audio band. The DAC probably has 0dB PSRR at those frequencies, so any of the noise that is not completely filtered from the DAC power supply causes AM of the output, potentially PM on the output if the power supply noise modulates the clock input switching threshold, and potentially direct PM of the oscillator if the noise gets on the oscillator power supply. Just painful all around. Would be interesting to figure out how much filtering would be required to get any power supply noise effects reduced to inaudible. What kind of noise amplitude and spectrum is on the output of that supply? -- Chris C Actually the regulators I'm using have 60db PSRR out to over 3MHz. The clocks and DAC chip have separate regulators. I haven't done a full analysis of the power at different points (haven't had the time!) I should do that soon. John S. pippin wrote: AirPlay only supports up to 48/24 but up to that it's bitperfect, it's sent as an ALAC stream. Actually even if you use the volume control in iPeng; the volume information is sent separately from the audio information, the volume control is not being done by applying a gain to the digital data like in the Squeezebox (the Receiver on the other end of the AirPlay connection might still do that but iPeng and AirPlay itself keep their hands off the data; at least unless you apply an equalizer) so you can design an AirPlay device that actually does analog volume control. Sorry to bring up an old quote, but just interested where the transcoding to 16/44.1 ALAC takes place (if for instance, I play a FLAC file from the SB server). I assume it is on the server, but it's not done by the Apple device is it? amey01's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11274 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98619 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

banned for life wrote: Ratings? Why Ratings? Yours? I only have a couple of thousand CD's but I know what I like.. My ratings. This is the most simple way of telling LMS which tracks I like. Track ratings allow using dynamic playlists to play my favourite music. When rating are displayed, I know which tracks I already rated (or not) and I can remember better which tracks I like without having to prelisten them when selecting to play them manually. Maybe my brains are not as perfect as yours, but I don't always remember the titles of my thousands of tracks I like(d)... For those with perfect brains and those not using ratings I suggested to have track ratings displayed optionally.
