[slim] How to sync (and unsync) volume control

2014-07-05 Thread hazymat

Hi all

I have four players in a sync group so that the same music plays in all
rooms.

Actually I have three rooms, and two of the players are sync'd: one
Squeezebox v3 which I use as a pretty room controller and another Duet
which actually plays the music. I simply use the SB3 plugged into the
mains and nothing else - for IR remote control of the group.

This works beautifully.

Previously I was able to sync volume *only* between the two room players
but not sync volume with the other two rooms, as I want to control
volume separately.

For some reason whatever I try, this arrangement no longer works. Maybe
it's because I am setting up the sync in ipeng, but I have tried it on
the web interface as well and strange things happen.

e.g. right now I turn up bathroom player and it turns up all players.
Then I turn down any other player but it leaves bathroom player at the
same volume. Strange!

Can anyone shed some light on how to set up volume sync groups
separately to playing sync groups?

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezePlay for Solaris and OpenIndiana

2014-07-05 Thread ralphy

I've put together an experimental OpenIndiana Intel OSS and SADA
squeezelite package.

The squeezelite-sada binary in the package only works if you're running
Sun Ray Server software on OI.

It's available in the Squeezelite/Solaris folder on 'mediafire'

The package includes the libsoxr resample library, and used system
packages for all codecs.

For mp3 decode using libmad instead of mpg123 you need to install libmad
from sfe-encumbered package repository.

Same for wma and alac decode, you need to install ffmpeg from same.

Re: [slim] How to sync (and unsync) volume control

2014-07-05 Thread pippin

Could you please describe what exactly you want to accomplish? I'm not
sure I fully understand that.

iPeng, by default, always controls volume on the whole group together
(through the main volume slider) and you can do changes to each
individual player by using the individual volume sliders in the player
list.

I suspect what you have done is use the sync volume setting in the
player settings in the server's web interface. What that feature
actually does if not all players are configured the same way is a bit of
a mystery to me, too. I suspect that the setting for the sync group
master (the player at the top of the group in iPeng) is the one that
decides but that's just a guess.
Now, the problem is that there is no way to really determine which
player is the master, the server can change that by itself and sometimes
does so dynamically, e.g. if the previous master is switched to off
state (a master is never off if anything in the group is playing).

Could that explain what you are seeing?

I presume its only Jive based players that can be used purely for
control without needing to sync them?

[slim] Enhancing LMS / Squeezebox using the Wave Input Plugin

2014-07-05 Thread Otto-Wilhelm

I recently discovered the Wave Input Plugin and its power to enhance
LMS.

Using two usb sound cards connected with my main server PC hosting LMS
and the software virtual audio cable (VAC) the following additional
music sources are now available in my LMS / Squeezebox system:

1.
Any windows software or browser application running on the pc hosting
LMS, such as the Qobuz application, the Wimp application, Aupeo!
(Browser) etc.

A virtual cable of VAC is the standard output device of the pc and can
be selected in the favorites menu of LMS by a wavin entry (wavin:3).

2.
Apple AirPlay using an Apple TV device connected via TOS link (optical
SPDIF) with the first of the usb sound card having a TOS link input,
which can be selected in the favorites menu of LMS by another wavin
entry (wavin:0). Accordingly, music from any OSX or IOS device can be
streamed via LMS.

3.
Being curious I bought a SONOS CONNECT, which is to be used for making
music services available over LMS. Currently it is connected analogously
with the analog input of the second ubs sound card (presumably having a
better quality than the first) and can be selected in the favorites menu
of LMS by a further wavin entry (wavin:4).l

I am trying to avoid the DA-AD-conversion for connecting the SONOS.
However, both the coaxial and the optical digital output of the SONOS
were not recognized by the available koaxial and optical digital sound
card inputs. Perhaps the SONOS sets the copy protection bit in the
digital outputs. I am working on this and ordered a Hucht copyprocessor.
I will report whether this will work.

Generally, the SONOS clearly has its advantages with respect to the very
easy set up. For me it is no alternative in view of my large music
collection which is too large for the SONOS. However, some of the music
services are quite nice or have a nicer and more powerful UI than the
corresponding LMS plugin. For example, the SONOS Qobuz app is much
better than the Qobuz plugin for LMS, and there is a SONOS Aupeo! app.
However, if someone considers to follow my approach: The corresponding
windows applications made available over LMS according to above option
1. are even better and more powerful, but of course can only be
controlled via a remote desktop application. The SONOS can be controlled
conveniently via remotes such as IPhone and IPad.

A small disadvantage: There is a noticeable delay between sending the
music according to one of the three options above and hearing over a
respective squeezebox device. I think that is no big disadvantage and
can be taken into account.
