Unfortunately nothing in the server.log related to the jammed track.

Understood - personally, my main objective would be synchronization and
I got the semi-official answer from a Google person that they will not
release their protocol, so no CCA synchro, no Sonos synchro :(

I simply go to "Random Mix -> Random Songs" and play songs randomly from
a selected genre.

I seriously doubt it's the FLAC file problem, the "jammed track" can
happen anywhere, any file, it just gets stuck without moving on to the
next track.

I'm trying to roll back to a stable release and see if I can still
reproduce this problem or not. Will keep you guys posted.

No, there isn't one. In the old days, people tended to post Transporter
specific postings in the "audiophile" forum. If you have questions that
relate to more general things (LMS, mysb.com, 3rd party software, 3rd
party hardware, etc.) you should post in those forums. For other things
that are "transporter" specific, I might use the "audiophile" forum.

Re: [slim] does anyone still use squeezelite anymore instead of chromecast audio and if so why?

2016-09-15 Thread dangerusty

My primary reason for not switching is that I want an AirPlay option,
and Squeezelite + Shairtunes plugin works for that.

Secondary reason is cost. Even though they are only $30-ish, I have 8
zones running that only cost $7/each for USB soundcards. That's $56 I
won't get back, plus the $240 for chromecast audios.

I must say, sync is awful with squeezelite, so I don't even use it. I
have two zones that are next to each other, so I just won't use them
both at once.

On the other hand, my setup is irritatingly unstable. Dedicated hardware
that people say works perfectly sounds pretty nice for $240 (compared to
Sonos). For the airplay requirement, I could always get the $20 airplay
receivers on amazon and use a splitter with the chromecast audio.

[slim] Smartphone Microphone Use Case?

2016-09-15 Thread dangerusty

I'm not even sure what to search for, so forgive the new thread. I'd
like to be able to speak into my iPhone and out of a squeezebox player.
One use case would be during a BBQ, letting my guests know that food is
ready through my outdoor loud speakers.

The only idea I have right now is to use the voice recorder app to
record my message, then use airplay to connect to squeezebox via
shairtunes, and play the recording. Surely there's a live way?

Thanks.

Re: [slim] Call for testers! Daphile

2016-09-15 Thread ant!

Hi kipeta,

this is related to my wave input question on FB. I have installed as
suggested the Wavinput plugin to check if it does what I want, and in
theory it does. I know you haven't used this plugin, but maybe you have
still an idea:
The plugin has not much configuration, only pointing to the right ALSA
device, usually "wavin:default" should do the job, but it isn't. That's
why I used ssh to get to the to the arecord and alsamixer, but still
struggling.
The developer of wavinput thinks there might be something deactivated by
you, or some permissions not set (e.g. user running arecord not member
of the audio group).

I know this is not really related to your main software and I'd
understand if you say you don't give support on that. Would be still
great if you could have a look into this thread, maybe you have an idea:

Re: [slim] Playing beyond tracks

2016-09-15 Thread dbm204

(sorry for the long post)

>From what I can recall, this started about a year ago. I have been using
7.9 since shortly after it was released. I can't remember whether it
also occurred under 7.8 at the time but I don't think so. Since some
changes are made in the 7.7,7.8 versions and then merged into 7.9 I
can't say where it started or whether it is now limited to 7.9.

However, lightning888 said in an earlier post that this occurred with an
SB3. For me, it is a transporter. So it may be an ipv3 issue (is that
what the original architecture is called?). I never see it when I listen
through my computer using squeezelite.

Here is what I usually see (I freely admit this scenario may be just a
coincidence). Would others who have seen the problem please confirm if
they also see this behaviour. This happens with any FLAC file. I don't
play much mp3 so I can't be absolutely sure but I don't think it is file
or tag related.

While playing, the screen flashes "cannot find server ... " and then
immediately switches back to the song title. This can happen repeatedly
and often. The issue where LMS loses track of which song it is on occurs
when the "cannot find server" flashes near the end of a song, presumably
when LMS is preparing for the next song. The next song will come on but
LMS on the device and on the webpage (as well as tablet apps) all show
the previous song.

As I said, the "cannot find server" always flashes for only an instant
like it loses sight of the server for just a moment. The time in between
each "cannot find server" can be many minutes or just seconds but each
time it only lasts a fraction of a second until the song title flashes
back.

I have never said anything about this because I was, and remain, too
happy with 7.9 to let this little blip concern me. And I know that this
message will lead many (as it did myself) to suspect it is just a
network/router problem. My LMS computer and my transporter are both
wired. I assign both their IP addresses on the router using IP
reservation by mac id. The computer and transporter are both using DHCP.
I used to use assigned IP addresses on both devices (not DHCP) but
changed that awhile ago to try to track this down to no avail.

The way I get out of this problem is to select play on a specific song
(next/prev song won't do it -- it remains off by one song) and LMS gets
itself and the player back in sync with the file actually playing. Only
rarely will music stop at the end of a song at which point I have to
explicitely play the next song. I forget if pressing next works.

Unfortunately, I can't reproduce the problem manually. I just have to
wait for it to happen. If someone can tell me what log settings to use
to capture "cannot find server" messages on the devices, I can turn that
on and wait for it to happen. I always suspected that if the message is
generated on the device by the firmware then we won't see it in the LMS
log. But, on the other hand, LMS web UI and tablet apps also get out of
sync so there must be something happening on the LMS side. I can't say
which side started it.

Also, no crossfade, no volume control (fixed at 100%), no replay gain.

Understood. LastMix already has code to match LastFM data to either
local tracks or (if not found locally) to one of the services you're
using (currently trying Deezer/Napster/Spotify/Tidal). But in many cases
the matching process is slow. Matching a whole list of tracks/artists
could take a while. It would need to be able to be run in the background

Well, we've done this a few years ago with our demo ickStream controller
using LMS as a source, but that wasn't about adding it to the library

could do with LMS if just there was a decent search within services.
I've planned to implement ickStream directly into iPeng forever but
where do I find all the time for these things?

The scrobbled ttack titles and album titles are identical to LMS titles.

...unless they were scrobbled while playing from Spotify/Deezer or the like.

My guess is you could match LastFM tracks to LMS tracks. A list like
Random Albums with Favorite Last FM Albums/Artist or Tracks.
Or a list from LastFM and a play button which tries to match a LMS
track/album/artist
Or an option to generate a playlist from LastFM list.

I think what might be great in general is if we could "add" music
referenced by music services to the music library. Eg. imagine you have
built your library in one of the music services, or the history in
Last.fm. And these items could somehow be part of the library, no matter
whether they were locally available or not... But that would be a
massive change to how LMS works today. Probably too much to ever happen
:-(.

Re: [slim] play lastFM scrobbled tracks

2016-09-15 Thread Michael Herger

There's no such thing as banning on last.fm, is there? I can't find any
related API all for that. There's "unlike", but that's not banning.

Really? Was that just Pandora and Slacker offering that?

I've never really been neither Pandora nor Slacker user for the obvious
reason of their lack of availability. But try to ban a track using
Last.fm. Or check their API documentation (http://last.fm/api). I can't
find any trace of a ban feature.

Re: [slim] iPhone 7

2016-09-15 Thread pippin

But for all other applications: since in most applications you are using
class-D amps anyway these days you can do away with a lot of lossy
analog signal handling if you go digital these days.
In the past the limiting factor was the need for a digital deceive
creating the input bitstream for the amp but today this is so cheap and
power efficient it's really the way you want to go. Especially since you
can program that to double as a digital filter to adapt to the speaker's
transmission curve, something you'd otherwise do with expensive, power
consuming and tolerance-challenged analog filters.

Re: [slim] iPhone 7

Yes. Saves a lot of power compared to DAC+amp which is pretty important
on mobile.
That said... It performs better if you can adapt the filter used to the
(known) speaker so it's a more likely candidate for built-in speakers
and digital headphones.
For the adapter I'm wondering whether you really need an amp or whether
a DAC can simply take the current needed (and provided by the phone).
Then you could just have only a DAC...

I just updated to Logitech® Media Server v7.9.0-161.1096, unfortunately
the problem still persists... still "playing beyond tracks". Ouch!

Anyone has any clue?

I've just been reading up on using a D class amp and driving the
switching with the bitstream, rather than DAC+amp. I guess that is what
you were talking about earlier ?

Sounds like a definite possibility.

Yes, it will. Yes, all of them. Yes, SoftSqueeze as well. What ?
I SAID ALL OF THEM !

The scrobbled ttack titles and album titles are identical to LMS titles.
