[slim] Blank screen when turned off
I use two Squeezebox 2s with LMS on Windows 7; I am currently using the latest nightly 7.9. I recently had a problem with getting into the Web Control but that problem was fixed when I reinstalled Firefox. But I am now having another problem with the SB2s. Both will turn on and work normally. However when both are turned off one shows the assigned SuperDateTime screensaver but the other is blank; when the "blank" SB2 is turned on all of the screens work normally. I have checked the display settings for both units in the LMS settings area and, as far as I can tell, they are identical. I have also tried installing other LMS versions over the existing installation which did not help. Any suggestions other than reinstalling LMS from scratch? Re: [slim] Why Do We Still Call It "Logitech Media Server?"
I pretty much already know the answer Which is?... Server" and not the original Squeezebox Server or later iterations. I know Logitech still owns the name and the (now defunct) hardware, but It's not really defunct, is it? Existing hardware should still work pretty much the way it did when it was actively supported. isn't server development being handled by volunteers, or are they (officially) still participating in server development? I'm just curious As others said I'm still a Logitech employee. And Logitech is not only paying for my living and this forum, but mysqueezebox.com/uesmartradio.com (which is many times the cost of the forum!), build systems, some updates every now and then etc. too. But the reason why LMS is still called LMS is much simpler: renaming it is useless effort only, a waste of resources imho. If somebody wants to work on LMS, then please do work on features, not the name. That's what I decided to do for myself. As JJZolx showed it's easy to have your own custom name in the web UI and some other places. Feel free to do so :-). -- Michael ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

As streaming services become more embedded and a way for the media giants to maintain a profitable lock on the industry, I'd expect them to start only releasing tracks via streaming services. While that might be good for streaming receivers, over time those to will become only the linked to the same streaming services, it's just a question of time for this to play out. There are two many big companies with deep pockets and time to play the long game. We are already light years from the days of MusicMatch and local MP3, through Napster and on. Re: [slim] Why Do We Still Call It "Logitech Media Server?"
I didn't realize that they still paid for the SlimDevices forum. I knew they had the "official" Logitech Squeezeboxen forum which I never found to be of use. My first Squeezebox was bought right at the time that Logitech bought the lineage. I remember being glad that it still said "SlimDevices" on the front instead of Logitech. Nothing against Logitech at the time. I just wanted it to be "genuine" since I thought (and still do) that the Squeezebox was an incredible device. It gives Logitech some modest advertising/exposure, which I'm sure helps to justify the continued presence of this forum, for which they continue to pay. Small price, and more power to them. R. [slim] Why Do We Still Call It "Logitech Media Server?"
I pretty much already know the answer, and the intent of this question is NOT to start a flame war NOR to disparage Logitech (although we all I'm sure harbor some resentment for the killing of the Squeezebox lineage no matter how fair/unfair it might be but we also are thankful that they continue to support MySqueezebox, etc). I just would like to know why the server software is still being named "Logitech Media Server" and not the original Squeezebox Server or later iterations. I know Logitech still owns the name and the (now defunct) hardware, but isn't server development being handled by volunteers, or are they (officially) still participating in server development? Re: [slim] Does LMS scan 'Grouping' tag?
Thank you. Very helpful. I use iTunes to manage my tracks. When I cross-reference the tags supported by LMS and iTunes, it seems that I'm already using all the tags supported by both, LMS and iTunes. The grouping tag (GRP) is not scanned by LMS. And iTunes does not have a CONDUCTOR tag. [slim] Virtual Libraries - help beginner please
Hello. I'm trying to use Virtual Libraries to rebuild a couple of menus I had previously created with Erland's plugin. I don't have any experience with SQL but I'm quite willing to learn. So if I understand all this correctly, I have to 'master' 3 steps to get my own custom menus/virtual libraries: > 1) use the Library demo as a starting point to create the -Plugin.pm-, > -install.xml- and -strings.txt- I need for my own plugin > > 2) figure out the correct SQL to be used in the plugin in each case > > 3) create the menus in LMS Some typical examples of menus I would like to create are: - a *comments based menu -group-* "AAA" with *submenus artists, albums, genres, years, songs* for all tracks that *include comment* AAA but *not* comment BBB and *not* comment CCC By "songs" I mean a submenu for virtual libraries (with few songs) which when clicked upon shows only the tracks (like in the Favorites menu). - a menu -group- "*Compilations*" with *submenus artists, albums, genres, years* (for all compilations) - a menu "*Random Compilations*" - exactly like the built-in -random albums- menu, only for compilations = *20 random compilation albums* - a menu -group- "*3 Stars+*" with *submenus artists, albums, genres, years* for all *tracks rated 3 stars or higher* Unfortunately, I already got stuck with the comments based menu AAA. The 4 menus show up (on the top menu level) but the entries are all wrong or even empty (on the track level). I didn't manage to create a "songs" submenu so far. Here's my -Plugin.pm- (without comments): Code: package Plugins::MyCustomMenus::Plugin; use strict; use base qw(Slim::Plugin::Base); use Slim::Menu::BrowseLibrary; use Slim::Music::VirtualLibraries; use Slim::Music::Import; use Slim::Utils::Log; sub initPlugin { my $class = shift; foreach ( { id => 'AAA', name => 'All AAA Tracks', # %s is being replaced with the library's ID sql => qq{ INSERT OR IGNORE INTO library_track (library, track) SELECT '%s', tracks.id FROM tracks LEFT JOIN comments ON WHERE comments.track = tracks.id AND comments.value LIKE '%AAA%' AND not exists (select * from comments where comments.track=tracks.id and comments.value like '%BBB%' and comments.value like '%CCC%' ) group by tracks.id } } ) { Slim::Music::VirtualLibraries->registerLibrary($_); } my @menus = ( { name => 'AAA_ARTISTS', icon => 'html/images/artists.png', feed => \::Menu::BrowseLibrary::_artists, id => 'AAA_TracksByArtist', weight => 25, virtualID => 'AAA', },{ name => 'AAA_ALBUMS', icon => 'html/images/albums.png', feed => \::Menu::BrowseLibrary::_albums, id => 'AAA_TracksByAlbum', weight => 25, virtualID => 'AAA', },{ name => 'AAA_GENRES', icon => 'html/images/genres.png', feed => \::Menu::BrowseLibrary::_genres, id => 'AAA_TracksByGenres', weight => 25, virtualID => 'AAA', },{ name => 'AAA_YEARS', icon => 'html/images/years.png', feed => \::Menu::BrowseLibrary::_years, id => 'AAA_TracksByYears', weight => 25, virtualID => 'AAA', } ); foreach (@menus) { Slim::Menu::BrowseLibrary->registerNode({ type => 'link', name => $_->{name}, params => { library_id => Slim::Music::VirtualLibraries->getRealId($_->{virtualID}) }, feed => $_->{feed}, icon => $_->{icon}, jiveIcon => $_->{icon}, homeMenuText => $_->{name}, condition=> \::Menu::BrowseLibrary::isEnabledNode, id => $_->{id}, weight => $_->{weight}, cache=> 1, }); } $class->SUPER::initPlugin(@_); } 1; My questions for this one: 1) where are the mistakes in my

Re: [slim] Does LMS scan 'Grouping' tag?
Can you point me to a complete list of *all* tags that LMS scans during a regular scan? I'm looking for an easy way to *get information via some (otherwise unused) tag into the LSM database* - without using plugins like CustomScan. At the moment, I store this information in tags that I don't use otherwise (like the Grouping tag). But for that I need the CustomScan plugin [unless you know a way to make LMS read the Grouping tag without plugins :hope:] So I need to find a tag I don't use and that is scanned by LMS. The comment tag is already very crowded and often changed which doesn't make it a good option for that purpose. I'm so open for suggestions.
