Not sure if it's related, but when I set-up my SB2 (WPA enabled), DHCP
didn't work either. I was keen to get it set up so just allocated an
address manually and all was fine.

I suspect you might need a longer cable (if it's anything like my
recollection of the SB1 internals; I haven't opened my SB2 yet), but
certainly not impossible. Someone in another thread was looking for
(and found, ISTR) a longer display cable for use in a custom case.

I'm thinking black. I loved the look of the black SB1 and I'm not
-quite- so keen on the look of my platinum SB2. I'm also thinking that
the only bit of audio kit I know of in white is the iPod.

Swings and roundabouts. More than a few weren't awfully excited by the
old housing. I prefer the new look but was happy to buy the SB1 2
because they did what they did much better than any available
alternative.

relative to a bunch of similar products, rather than being compared to
more mainstream consumer technology. I'm not aware that any of the
other products in the review have a more intuitive UI or are perfectly
bug-free and will require no fixes.

now as the iPod is the certainly the most fashionable DAP (and gapless
aside, it's quite capable) but there are several technically and
sonically superior models available IMHO. I think it's more a case of
'survival of the prettiest'.

The advice to listen before re-ripping is fair enough if you intend to
stick with MP3. I don't think your MP3 files would be an adequate base
for transcoding to another format from however. That said, you can wait
till the need to transcode arises (if ever) and re-rip then.
