Ahhh, have a look at your file types options. You may find that the AACs
are being transcoded to flac, which iTunes cannot handle.

the desktop agrees with mediamonkey, so I think (hope!) all the tracks
are there.
Maybe I need to see if I have extra code pages addd to one or other of
the machines. That's possible as the missus often adds code page 1210.

well removing all the upside down question marks found me an extra 130
tracks, but I'm still 140 tracks shy of the expected total. I wonder if
there's some other non-standard characters this lappy can't read.

Well, I realised I had nothing at all by Björk, so that was a giveaway.
Bizarre considering the machine has German windows and the appropriate
characters on the keyboard.
I've removed äëöü from all file and folder names now, just re-scanning
to see how I get on.

machine can read these and the other not, as both have
German Windows, fully up to date, using the same release ZSan drivers
to access the NAS.
At least I know what to look out for when I rip in future.

Of course the bummer for us QNAP users, and other NASes, is that SS7 is
required.

IMO properly enabling the headphone socket is a priority. At a stroke
this would make the controller a much better buy, and the duet package
a bargain.

Apple have a media streamer - it's called Apple TV, I have one and it's
surprisingly good if you don't use the analogue outs.

Hi,
On the QNAP you need to use port 9001 and not 9000. This is a small
change required for the QNAP, because as you have seen the
pre-installed media server already uses 9000.

SC7 is not currently available for the QNAP.
The good news is that QNAP are intending to make SC7 part of the
firmware (like Twonky), but I don't know of a release date yet.
