To the OP, you don't have to use Ubuntu netbook remix, the full 9.10
will likely support all your hardware - try the live CD to test it out

Music IP would be the way to go for sure. If you can't get it to work
you can save your genius mixes as playlists and put them in your SBS
playlist folder.

to the price, an Atom based nettop running Vortexbox is
cheaper than the Synology 109 where I live.
That said, I am not saying that the 109 won't make a decent SB server.

Get monitor that runs on a different spectrum. Move the baby monitor to
a different wireless network on a different channel (edit this won't
work if it creates its own ad hoc network) Or buy a wireless IP camera.

Sonos has discontinued their dedicated controller. The cr200 suffered

A switch enabled mp3 player is probably what you need. There are
adapter(s) that interface with (older) iPods or dedicated switch
players.
If a computer is the desired option then you could pair it with a darci

I recently bought a SMSL Q5 Pro and am really happy with it. Digital and
analog inputs, IR, sub out. Works with harmony. At about $120 it is more
expensive than a Lepai, for me it is worth it.
