[slim] Boom and Touch not listed in Airplay
Hope someone can help. I used to be able to play music directly from my IPhone directly to my SB Boom and Touch. Theyre not showing on the list of available devices when selecting Airplay. Ive enabled the PI Core player to show on the list but not the SB players directly Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro MrClive's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48176 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111792 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

RSJ wrote: I just wanted to update everyone and send out a thank you to everyone who pointed me in the right direction; my Rhapsody/Duet woes have been solved. Rhapsody is dead and I've moved to Spotify, sorry Rhapsody. I set up a LMS on my Raspberry Pi and used Max2Play as the platform. Set up the 3rd party plugin for Spotify, kudos on that guys! And now I have on demand music throughout my home again, even on my SB Receivers and SB Boom. As far as listening to different things in my home I'm going to set up two servers, one with my wife's Spotify account and one with mine. That way when I go into the garage to work I'll connect that SB receiver to my server and listen to what I want. So in my estimation the Squeezebox hardware has been fully replaced by better and more versatile products., Raspberry Pi, Hifiberry boards, Max2Play and SqueezeCommander. Thank you to everyone who has worked on all these products, long live the Squeezebox! !!! I've as in exactly the same position and have done exactly the same thing. Using MAx2play to run Spotify although it does cost a £10 per month compared to £5 (dropped Napster), it runs really well and I'm not getting the buffering that i've had with the SB boom on and off for the last 2-3 years. I'm looking to see if I can run Kodi on the same PI and stream media through my TV. Does anyone know if it's possible or if it's better to run Kodi as a stand alone separate PI? A charger (USB) - go for a 2amp or more (so it can power the Pi and a hard disk). And a Mini usb cable. 1 SD memory card - suggest 8gb min, probably best to go for 16gb - to store the OS on. Storage for any local music you might have. I prefer Msata because that is silent and small (no spinning disk, but it's hugely expensive), so maybe just buy a 2.5 hard drive and a USB caddy. or if no local music, then do not bother. if less then 56gb of your own music, buy a 64gb SD card for the operating system and store it on that. Or a USB thumb drive. That's it. Download squeezeplug for pi, install (per instructions), and job done. 1 silent, no bother LMS server. Pop it next to your router in a cupboard and forget.. Squeezeplug has the ability to share the storage networked to windows, so you really never need to go touch it - you can copy music to it and maintain it all from your pc over the network. Mine seem to run for months without any intervention. It's a music serving appliance. Thanks for all of your help with this. I don't tend to store music locally but I have thought of adding it. Would I need to rip to FLAC to add this. If so would I need to do this on another device, such as my laptop or could I add a plug in CD drive to this? From the spec list I've put together a kit list. Am I on the right track? If I didn't want to store music locally I'm interpreting that I wouldn't need the 2.5 hard drive and USB Caddy. Is this correct? [slim] Cost effective device to run as a LMS
I haven't been on here for a while but hope someone can help. I like many on here have been happily running Napster on my Squeezebox Box Boom until last month when Rhapsosy changed their encryption. I've been running my SB Touch and Boom via my Squeezebox but I looking at possibly setting up a cheap device that I can have switched on somewhere that can run LMS. I've set up Spotify again recently but it won't run on the Boom via mysqueezebox. All advice greatly appreciated. NOT using LMS or SB software player, something like WMP, iTunes, WinAmp. Sure ISP is not doing bandwidth limiting/shaping? Thanks for the reply Correct, I'm not using software players. I'm using both a SB Touch and SB Boom. I mainly use the devices playing individually on their own, not playing at the same time or synced and the problem occurs. When I connect to directly to MySB.com I've noticed that this is when the buffering generally happens. The Server computer is off when this happens. I'm using Virgin for broadband, I'm generally getting 24Meg down and 3 meg up, via a Super Hub. I'm not sure how to check limiting/ Shaping. Re: [slim] Squeezebox Touch Buffering
I've just tried installing the newer version of LMS sofware. I'd guessed that as Vortexbox has effectively converted the old desktop into a Linux based server that I should choose the Linux RPM from the dropdown. However when I try and do this windows (on the laptop I'm connecting to the LMS on) comes up with windows can't open this file Logitechmediaserver-7.7.2-1. If I download the Windows Version of LMS it tries to install it on the laptop I'm connecting to the Vortexbox as opposed the Vortexbox PC. Any suggestions? [slim] How to get the best results from Audioengine A2 speaker with SB Touch
Hope someone can help. I've recently bought some Audioengine A2 speakers for my Squeezebox Touch. They're currently set up on a shelf along a wall in the corner of the livingroom. I was wondering how to get the best out of them. The shelf is 85cm wide, 30cm deep with a matching sized shelf positioned 30cm above this. As they're front venting speakers I'm guessing there's no issue with them being too close to the wall. Does anyone know if this is the case? Would they be better positioned at the front of the shelf or against the wall? Alternatively would it be better to put them on the higher shelf? They're also connected with the standard speaker cables and connectors that the SB Touch and A2's come with. Any recomendations with speaker positioning or connecters that would improve the sound quality? [slim] Squeezebox Touch Buffering
Hope someone can point me in the right direction I've a SB Touch and Boom running set up with an old desktop that running vortexbox software / LMS server. I've also added Spotify on this LMS with the Triode 3rd party plug in so that the Boom can run Spotify. I've noticed buffering problems when using Spotify on both the Touch and the Boom. I've also noticed the BBC Radio App being slow to initially connect it and also experiences buffering problems. The SB Touch also seems to be wanting to update software 2-3 times a week, which is really annoying. I've tried restoring the SB Touch to factory setting and removed the Triode software from the Vortexbox LMS. I've re-installed just official Spotify app (without the Vortexbox being on) and it still buffers. The same issue continues with the BBC Radio App being slow to connect and buffers (on both the Touch and Boom). Any suggestions on what I can do to rectify this? Re: [slim] Squeezebox Touch Buffering
Thanks for getting back to me, The PC running Vortexbox software is directly connected to the superhub via Ethernet cable. I'm using a Virgin Superhub 30Meg connection, so getting approx 24 down on the older wireless cards, approx 29Mbt directly connected. Not sure what you mean by software player? I'll have to double check to see if the problem occurs with playing local music (I tend to use Spotify more these days) The problem occurs when the players are unsync'd Squeezeboxes are connected wireless to the Superhub no home plugs. Sofware versions on the Touch is 7.7.2. r9663 Mysqueezebox.com is SS r33983, SNR 11822 Not sure how to find the software update on the Boom (I could find it was running firmware 57 if that helps) MrClive's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48176 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96049 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Ripping to FLAC and making a copy that works with ITunes
Hope you can help. I'm looking to re-rip my CD's to FLAC as I currently have my music stored in ITunes. From what I've read up in other forums I can rip to FLAC and then convert a copy to MP3 so that this I can still use ITunes to sync with my Ipods Can anyone recommend the best way of doing this? What would I do with the music files that I've bought from ITunes (thankfully not that many), can I convert these to FLAC? Is there an alternative path? As I've got probably approx 200+ CD's what's the most efficient way of doing this? I'd probably be using my laptop to do this although I am toying with the idea of getting a Vortexbox server at some stage. -- MrClive MrClive's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48176 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88774 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
