Re: [slim] Squeezebox Touch can't connect to Logitech Media Server on PC

2012-10-09 Thread Narbux

I finally solved my connection issue. On epoch's suggestion I hooked
another laptop to my LAN and tried to connect to my PC, but wasn't even
able to ping it. It turned out there was firewall software running on my
PC that I hadn't realised of, that came with the VPN software that I use
to connect to the network at work (CheckPoint VPN-1 Secure Client). I
thought I'd switched off everything related to this software, but
apparently I hadn't. I now disabled it using Control Panel - Network
Connections - Properties of ethernet adapter. CheckPoint creates an
entry Check Point SecuRemote there. I unchecked it and voilà!

So thanks everyone for their suggestions, I will now start enjoying my
music :)

Cheers!

[slim] Squeezebox Touch can't connect to Logitech Media Server on PC

2012-10-05 Thread Narbux

Hi

I recently bought my first Squeezebox: a Touch. It connects to the
internet and mysqueezebox.com fine, but I can't get it to connect to
Logitech Media Server on my PC.

My setup is the following: Arris Touchstone cable modem (provided by
ISP) with wired connection to a TP-LINK WR1043ND wireless router. The
SBT is connected to the router via Ethernet cable; the PC has a wireless
connection to the router. I'm running firmware version 7.7.2 r9663 on
the SBT and LMS version 7.7.2 - r33893 on Windows XP SP3. Guided by
threads on this forum I've tried disabling Windows Firewall and Sophos
Antivirus, disabling DHCP on the router and assigning static IP
addresses, connecting SBT wirelessly and via cable, resetting to factory
settings on the SBT, rebooting the router and SBT, and changing the LMS
HTTP port number. Unfortunately nothing worked, so I'm getting stuck on
ideas here... Could my router be blocking the necessary ports? How can I
check? Or is it simply a software / firmware version problem?

My SBT is telling me:

Settings-Advanced-Diagnostics-Server info:
Mysqueezebox.com 46.137.90.12 (this changes frequently)
Ping OK
TCP port 3483 OK
TCP port 9000 OK
Mysqueezebox.com Registered
Logitech Media Server not connected
Library name not connected
Ping not connected
TCP port 3483 not connected
TCP port 9000 not connected

Ethernet info:
IP address 192.168.1.101
IP subnet 255.255.255.0
IP gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS server 192.168.1.1

On the LMS Control Panel I have:

Diagnostics Tab:
Logitech Media Server
LMS:Running
Server IP: 192.168.1.100
Port 3483 (slimproto): OK
Port 9001 (HTTP): OK
Port 9090 (CLI):OK

mysqueezebox.com
Server IP Address: 176.34.103.114
Ping: OK
Port 3483 (slimproto): OK
Port 9000 (HTTP): OK

And on the Information tab:
Logitech Media Server Status
Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.2 - r33893 @ Wed Mar 14 05:47:42 PDT
2012
Hostname: Whatever
Server IP Address: 192.168.1.100
Server HTTP Port Number: 9001
Operating system: Windows XP - EN - cp1252
Platform Architecture: 586
Perl Version: 5.14.1 - MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.34_01 (sqlite 3.7.7.1)
Total Players Recognized: 0

My router is on IP 192.168.1.1, the cable modem is on 192.168.100.1.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the quick reply.
I'm not sure what a guest network is, I haven't set one up consciously
in any case. Any way to check if my router does this by default?
I've stopped and restarted LMS numerous times...

Yep, I've gone to My Music on the Touch. It tells me To enable My Music
try the following: Download LMS, Make sure it's up and running... etc
I have named the media library and scanned a folder containing my music
on the Server.

Diagnostics, what is reported for ALL pings, ports, IP's?

Unless I'm missing something I specified this in my original post?

This is unusual. Your router's Internet port is on a private network.
Many routers will reject traffic apparently coming from private
addresses on the Internet port. This shouldn't disrupt LAN access,
 though…

Perhaps the router uses something like wifi client isolation ? In such
a scenario the wifi client is handed an IP on the local network, but the
only thing it can do is access the internet. Access to (and from ?)
other clients on the LAN is filtered. Same concept as wifi guest
network but on a machine-per-machine basis.
If this is enabled, it would create the situation you see, I think.

Can you grab a random computer and plug it in place of the Touch ? From
the computer you could scan the network, try to run Squeezeplay …

I'm afraid I haven't been completely accurate. I can access my modem's
admin page via IP 192.168.100.1. However, if I go to the admin page of
the router and check the WAN settings, it's showing an external IP:
IP: 62.xxx.yyy.133
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 62.xxx.yyy.1
(where xxx and yyy are the same in both cases)

So I don't know if the situation you describe still applies to me. I
don't have a laptop available here at the moment, but can arrange for
one tomorrow. I'll have a go at it and let you know. Thanks anyways!
