Re: [slim] Call for testers! Daphile
To my post above: Now it seems it might be related to the internal sound card of my fitpc2, since I also cannot play back anything. Usually I use a USB-DAC, so I never realized I don't get any signal through the analogue out. And this might influence the same soundcard's input... ant!'s Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66046 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99132 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Call for testers! Daphile
Hi kipeta, this is related to my wave input question on FB. I have installed as suggested the Wavinput plugin to check if it does what I want, and in theory it does. I know you haven't used this plugin, but maybe you have still an idea: The plugin has not much configuration, only pointing to the right ALSA device, usually "wavin:default" should do the job, but it isn't. That's why I used ssh to get to the to the arecord and alsamixer, but still struggling. The developer of wavinput thinks there might be something deactivated by you, or some permissions not set (e.g. user running arecord not member of the audio group). I know this is not really related to your main software and I'd understand if you say you don't give support on that. Would be still great if you could have a look into this thread, maybe you have an idea: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?49584-Announce-WaveInput-for-Linux=862622=1#post862622 Thanks! -------- ant!'s Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66046 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99132 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

hi folks i would like to get the squeezeplay screensaver issue sorted if possible. is there any chance you can post some slightly clearer instructions as to what i need to set in terminal in order to achieve this? thx in advance, Ant Ant's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16762 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99259 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] What to buy next?
Hi Ralphy thank you so much, the Squeezeplay app works beautifully and now the iMac screensaver kicks in as it should. Have yet to try Squeezelite but I will likely just use Squeezeplay as having a controller available on the desktop is quite handy. Back to enjoying music again, rather than thinking about how to get it working! This for me also solves the question what to buy next?. As long as LMS can be made to work with Apple devices then I don't see a great problem replacing the Duet if it ever decides to stop working. My Duet is well into it's 6th year now so pretty much into bonus time as consumer electronics go... thx also to jimbob and indirectly to flimflam, Ant Ant's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16762 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99259 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] What to buy next?
Hi thx for that reply. You are quite right and I did not have the usb speaker connected when playing through iTunes. As it turns out the usb speaker sounds terrible playing anything and further investigations have shown that it is not compatible with the iMac. So that's one problem down at least! Have yet to try the other suggestions as to be honest, i don't know how to... But thanks to all anyway. [slim] What to buy next?
I have enjoyed my Squeezebox setup for over 5 years but with the recent demise of the line I'm a bit stuck as to how to expand. My setup is relatively simple. I used to have a Duet in the living room and a Radio in the study, which pretty much took care of things. After building a summer house the Radio moved out there and in the winter it will likely find it's way onto my bedside table. At the same time a replacement computer (an iMac) went in the study. The plan was to run squeezeplay on the iMac. However a longstanding and seemingly insurmountable bug prevents the screensaver in OS X when squeezeplay is enabled (even when not playing) which renders this useless. So I need something to play music in the study. Another radio is an option, but it no longer fits in with the aesthetic in there (the iMac is all matt silver) and more importantly, the iMac also sounds better than the Radio (I have a nice little subwoofer attached via USB which really brings the best out of the newest iMac). Options are complicated further by the fact that the latest iMac has lost it's line in connection, although I believe that this can be relatively cheaply solved by a USB solution. So what are my options? As I see it at the moment I have a few, but if anyone has better suggestions please feel free to share them. 1. A second duet receiver from fleabay attached to iMac. 2. A new SB3 for the living room and relocate the current duet receiver to attach to the iMac. 3. An O2 Joggler attached to the iMac. 4. An iPod touch and dock running squeezepad attached to the imac. Any other suggestions? My preferences for something visually discreet and easy enough for the GF to operate! Re: [slim] What to buy next?
Hi there Thx for that. To answer, yes GF happily uses duet controller and would be happy carrying on with that setup, as would I, although I use other devices also (work ipad and my phone). Wrt squeezelite, I have to confess that I know nothing about it but will now do some searching. If it is headless I presume it would be controllable via the various interfaces (controller, phone, ipad, SB Radio) but not visible or controllable on the imac? If so it sounds ideal... Re: [slim] What to buy next?
hi Ralphy thx for that advice. I am still new to OS X and have no experience of terminal, but I will look to trying that out. However I have just installed squeezelite and while it seems to work there also seem to be terrible sync/buffer issues at least while playing through spotify. Also it refuses to play mp3 files, although I am sure I have seen that issue described elsewhere on the forum, so no doubt I'll be able to find a solution. More pressing is the dropout/sync/buffer issues which, as I write this, are driving my GF up the wall! Re: [slim] What to buy next?
hi Thx again. I have yet to try these options. In the meantime I have discovered that my external usb audio device sounds absolutely terrible when playing through either squeezeplay OR squeezelite, yet works nicely when playing either through itunes or spotify. I don't want to sound defeatist, but perhaps there is a limit as to what I can expect from free 3rd party plugins? WRT version, I definitely have r247. I will check my LMS settings wrt bandwidth limiting and lame, although the MP3 files in question are on my local LMS server and play perfectly well on the Duet so I suspect that that part is OK... It is very frustrating though, as it so very nearly works! bw, Ant Ant's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16762 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99259 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Selling Duet and Radio
Hi all I have a Duet, bought in 2008 and a Radio, bought last year, both for sale. I don't know if there is a specific thread for this, or if sales are not really done here on the forum? If not then mods pls feel free to remove this post and accept my apologies. I am UK based and would only sell to someone in the UK. The duet is in great condition and the remote had a new battery a year or two ago. There is a slight scratch on the screen which is about 5mm long, but only visible if you look for it. The condition otherwise is excellent and the unit has never given any trouble. It runs an older version of firmware as I run it from a Qnap nas drive, although this can of course be updated anytime. The charging cradle, power supplies and original packaging is all there too. The radio is more recent and is immaculate. It also has an aftermarket rechargeable battery set in it, which run brilliantly. Again, packaging all there. Reluctant to use fleabay, but open to sensible offers here, as I understand that these items are becoming a bit sought after now that Logitech has discontinued them. I would sooner keep them then let them go for silly money, as there still isn't a perfect solution (for my particular needs at least) on the market to replace them Pls pm for any other info Thx, Ant Ant's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16762 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98141 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Accessing Squuezecentre library from other locations
Hi all not sure whether this is the right place for this question, but after searching the forum I can't find an answer... Is it possible to access a squeezebox library from a remote location over the internet? What I want is to access my home library from another house, using a pc there, then stream the file to the stereo via either another squeezebox device or some other product, or possibly just connect a laptop to a stereo with good old fashioned cables! So for example, if I was visiting my brother and I wanted to play a new track from my library, could I access my own squeezebox library over the internet? So for reference my current set up is: QNAP TS109II running slimserver 7.01 ish and accessed via a Squeezebox Duet. Re: [slim] New Logitech MM STREAM Squeezebox Touch spotted !!
It is sometimes interesting to look at who is posting here - or who is not. There are a few normally active forum members who will post when hoaxes are being talked about but not when the product is real. I think the same thing happened before the Boom launch and the Duet launch. Looking forward to the real thing showing up on the web site - 1st July maybe? Re: [slim] Nokia Comes with Music
Yes keep forever. The deal is available on PAYG mobiles as well as contract. If you buy a Nokia 5310 from Orange they are £130 on PAYG. This then gets you a 12 month subscription to Nokia's music service where you can download any of 2.1 million tracks they have. Once downloaded they are yours to keep forever. The snags are that you can only use them on one computer (although they will allow you to transfer them to another once the computer dies - the idea is they are only available on one computer at a time) and you can only play them on your nokia phone. Seems a great deal to me. Only problem is I already have a PAYG Nokia 5310 and the downloads are only available with a newly purchased phone! As for the 5310 - it is a good phone and the sound quality as a portable music player is very good, better than most other phones I have heard and as good as most mp3 players too. It can only have a max. of 8gb memory, but that is quite a good anmount really. I just wonder if it is possible to download the tracks and store them on my NAS drive and play them through slimserver to my squeezebox? -- Ant Ant's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16762 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54953 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Nokia Comes with Music
Hi all Anyone familiar with this new mobile phone music service? It seems that you get unlimited downloads to your phone and one registered pc (one at a time anyway) and that any tracks downloaded are yours to keep forever (although some sort of copy protection must exist to restrict them to one pc at a time) Anyone know whether these would work with slimserver?
