Hi Karin,

One thing to consider: we tried Google Groups for a conference and had lots
of trouble with many universities blocking Google Groups email as a
spammer.  People worked around this by using personal emails, but it wasn't
ideal.

Except for the last one there is http://groups.google.com/.

Depending of the plans for the email list you can check

- https://riseup.net/
- http://www.inventati.org/
- https://aktivix.org/

Normally you need to request the list and one of the admins need to
approve it (what nornally takes a few days).

Several groups I am a member of are using Google Groups for this.
Its not perfect, I find the spam moderation interface painful, but it is free.

Are you planning to restrict posting to list members? That makes
dealing with spam much easier.
