I have heard from a few other people who had written me off-list about
the lack of a good filter to import Applix documents, spreadsheets,
etc. We have a large (12k) of them of which several hundred are still
important to maintain.

I hadn't any migration problems at all. Then again, I didn't have a

Openoffice Base has some problems and gaps such as:
1. When I import an MS Access file (mfb) then unnesseccary tables are
created.
2. There is not a possibility to save a database as an access (mdb) file.
3. There is not a possibility to convert an openoffice base to an sql file.
If I want to attach a file to an email I'm sending to
a correspondent who uses Word, I use save as and
choose one of the versions of Word that I can choose
as options, usually Word 6.0, from my 1.1.4 menu. If
