Jarryd Huntley was kind enough to let me know about Ohio Game Dev Association that he's engaged in this year.
Before I forgot, thought I'd share with discuss list in case some folks: 1) are into video game design themselves and motivated enough to attend 2) would like to help share knowledge of this event They're putting up a show in Columbus in Sept called Ohio Game Dev Expo. More details here: http://www.ohiogamedev.com/ The Ohio Game Dev Expo is a new annual event designed to bring together over 250 people from around Ohio interested in game development, from creators to business people. Attendeeds will be share ideas about the art and business of game development, discuss the latest issues and trends regarding the industry, and build networks to make more and better games. It is being hosted by the Ohio Game Developer Association, which is a collective of several Ohio based video game companies and organizations that are devoted to increasing the role Ohio, and the Midwest, has in the video game industry. It is our hope that by building a community of talented and dedicated people, we can become the new hotspot for video game development. The theme of the conference this year is to excite and empower people who are interested in game development to take their career or business to the next level, whether by starting a company, moving into mobile games, or establishing new collaborations. Our hope is that when attendees leave the event, they're not only excited about taking the next step, but they feel that they have the tools to get started in a smart and strategic way. Whether you are considering a career in game development, looking to identify new opportunities for your company to make games, or are an investor, marketer or publisher looking to form relationships with game creators, this event is the place to be if you're in Ohio and care about making good games. The event will feature a series of speakers by ticket-only, plus an exhibition/showcase space for individuals and companies to present their games and gaming technologies, which is open to the public and free to attend. The showcase floor will have over 40 booths with games you can try and buy, developers you can talk to 1 on 1, and development tools you can see and experience for yourself. We are still accepting applications for showcase booth space, so please email us to get your products into the hands of players. Since the event is occurring at The Ohio State University, we are estimating a large level of interest from the students. About Ohio Game Developer Association: The Ohio Game Developer Association is a not-for-profit association of people in the video game industry, including professionals and amateurs. Our goal is to put Ohio on the map as an active, growing, and successful state for video game development.
