Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] [Election 2016] Nominations reminder and campaign proposal

2016-09-18 Thread Jorge Sanz
Thank you all for your suggestions and feedback.

We'll have a week of campaigning and discussion once the candidates
list is closed. I've added a section for this on the elections page[1]
and created a page following last year template[2].

I'd ask candidates that once they are happy with their text to forward
it to Discuss so they can open a conversation if needed. The template
is just that, a framework of questions that candidates can answer in
their own way.

Voting will be delayed one week then (calendar has been updated on the
Elections page).

Candidates can start publishing their manifestos from this Wednesday 21st (UTC).

Please let me know if there's anything else we can do to improve the process.

Best regards
Jorge

Strong +1 here.
Actually I proposed the same two years ago [1].
"So here is my proposal:

For next year:
- Make something like a "campaining period" a part of the election.
Give candidates an official time to explain their plans and have room
for discussion afterwards.

Im also an 'interested party' and would definitely like an extra week
to prepare answers to the simple question that Nikos proposes, but
also think its a good idea if we replicate the Candidate Manifesto
page for 2016 and all of us write something there. Jorge can you setup
the stub?

In my humble view, both as an OSGeo charter member and GRASS-GIS' CRO (recently
experienced the

some way, all candidates to support their candidacy publicly.

2016-09-16 Thread Daniel Morissette
FWIW, as a "non-interested party" which is interested in the candidates
visions, I would support the addition of a week of campaining before the
votes.

And I like Nikos' suggestion of starting it with every candidate
answering the question

"What should the community expect from my board membership?"

Hi Maxi

Sending it to this list will be more effective. For reference, last
year manifestos are here

https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Election_2015_Candidate_Manifestos

I recommend following the same schema, nicely proposed by Steven
Feldman at that time IIRC.

I can always put them all together on a wiki page like that one so
charter members can review it before voting.

dear Jorge,
I remember this was done also for past elections.
It is not mandatory of course, but i agree it should be nice to have this

Maybe we could have a dedicated wiki page for that?

Jorge Sanz:

Dear OSGeo community and charter members

This is a reminder that there's still some days for nominations to the
Board of Directors elections. We have already nine great candidates,
including all the present Board members running for re-election. Take
a look at [1] for an overview of the nominations and support
expressions. Maybe there's a candidate that is worth your support or
someone special that you think should run to join our Board?

The other point of this email is to follow up with Gert-Jan
proposal[2] to put a week between the nominations period and the
actual voting to let candidates to express their intentions for their
term.

I'm inclined to accept it because I think is a good idea and no one
has opposed but also because next week I'll be out of the office for
the GEOSTAT course first here in Spain (20/21) and SoTM in Brussels
(22/26) later and I'll be pretty busy.

What do you think? Looking forward for your opinions.

In my humble view, both as an OSGeo charter member and GRASS-GIS' CRO (recently
experienced the
role for the new PSC election), I can only recommend to allow or even ask, in
some way, all candidates to support their candidacy publicly.

For the next GRASS-GIS' PSC election, I support what came out of a related
thread, in a post by Micha Silver (see

request (which, I know, is rather a bit strict) candidates to feedback the
community by answering to
the very question (slightly altered)

"What should the community expect from my membership?"

Kindest regards, Nikos
