Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] What usually your local chapter exhibit in a conference?

2009-04-16 Thread Cameron Shorter

Jacolin,
I understand that adding html content to the liveDVD is quite straight
forward.

Stefan can you please verify the steps. I think it is just a case of:
* You download the LiveDVD
* Add you favourite HTML pages into the DVD image
* Save and then burn the new image

Yves,
Have you considered using the LiveDVD instead of a USB key? I suspect it
would be cheaper. (at ~ $2 per DVD). You can also include all the data
and programs you suggested on the DVD as well.

Hello,

The usb key was a sponsor from Autodesk Fr and is useful (rewritable) for the
user :)

But we indeed think first using a LiveDVD and I am happy that there is an
OSGeo project about this. However, I am not sur if it is so easy to add data
and documentation inside the OSGeo Live DVD or others. Am I wrong? If you can
redirect me to a wiki page explaining how to do :)

Hi,
the USB key has the great advantage of being writable. This allows
people to carry their stuff home and continue as if nothing happened. We
are currently moving all our curriculum to work with a USB key solution.

For other purposes a DVD version will have its advantages too.

Best regards,
Arnulf.

Is your event before FOSS4G in October? If so, I can organise to send
you FOSS4G postcards to advertise FOSS4G.

To get you started, you'll want to get an Exhibition Pack, these are the
basic items to setup an exhibit.
http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Exhibition_Pack

You'll also want to make a wiki page for your event like:
http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/CGS_2008
http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/AAG_2009
These pages will also give you an idea of what you can hand out and what
to have at the booth.

Next you'll want to print some materials, there's a whole bunch to
choose from in the OSGeo svn.
http://svn.osgeo.org/osgeo/
You'll want to look in Marketing and maybe the Journal.

At our latest event we ran a Live DVD for demo purposes but mostly
handed out a general brochure and talked with people about what they do
and what OSGeo software might be useful to them.
In hindsite, we should of had a copy of the OSGeo Journal printed, and
buttons would have been nice.

Hope that's enough to get you started, you should probably have someone
from your team join the marketing committee mailing list to talk about
your event, ask questions and get some more ideas.

Enjoy,

Hi Cameron,

Yepp. We'll attend GISAS conference as a exhibitor at 30, April. And we have
another plan to show ourselves to other GIS related conference before FOSS4G
2009. If you send postcards to us, that would be very nice.

Do you want my address?
