At the time i purchased I was considering a NAS but went for Vortexbox due to the ripping software and didn't really consider the expert need for updates etc. Incremental updates were fine but it was the overhaul that moving to v2 required as, if I recall, it needed an update to the Linux OS as well. As regards this comment 'FLAC support was only added in 7.7.x', I assume that simply relates to the Tidal app running FLAC as my SBT plays FLAC files from the Vortexbox without any problems.
