Maybe, we could append this idea with the 'Improve less popular database backend idea' on the wiki <https://code.djangoproject.com/wiki/SummerOfCode2018#Improvingthelesspopulardatabasebackends> page as that project is also not that big for a GSoC project but the purpose of both projects seems quite similar to me. So I guess we could have a good GSoC project by combining both the idea?
