Yes, plz make a list of features that you want to have in ur web app, and then
read django official doc to understand the working for each feature that u

Hi Tanni,

Simple emails can be sent using django. Not sms!
Since sending sms requires users to pay for it.

You will have to integrate a third party service for sending sms e.g. Twilio
https://www.twilio.com/

I hope this helps!

It is not necessarily trivial to implement Celery or any sort of batch
processor. It requires a separate server demon that may not be supported on
your hosting platform. I'd suggest combing through the docs for Celery and
the specific Django documentation for it, which includes many examples.

Re: django project avoid reload page where work algorithm

2017-10-08 Thread Jani Tiainen
For example with celery you create celery task that does the actual math.
Creation of task is fast operation. Once task is created request returns.

In the background celery worker picks your task and executes it. It doesn't
matter how long that takes. Once task is completed worker waits for next
task.

Every task gets id which you can return to frontend and then for example
using ajax call you could query if task is ready and inform user about
progress or completition.

Re: django project avoid reload page where work algorithm

2017-10-08 Thread Jani Tiainen
Hi.

For long running operatios celery tasks are pretty good choice. Celery can
use rabbitmq as messaging queue so those two aren't mutually exclusive.

Once you have task running it is possible to use for example ajax polling
to query status of the task and once complete inform end user that task is
complete.

Or you can send email at the end of the task.

easy to follow. I covers most of the components that you will need to get

Dear Imed,

Another very useful tutorial that covers a lot of ground about developing
django-powered sites is the "TaskBuster Django Tutorial" at
http://www.marinamele.com/taskbuster-django-tutorial

That site also has other tutorials that are related to other aspects of
(django) website development.

I wish you the best of luck.

Sincerely,

Re: Django project structure

2016-11-05 Thread YOGITHA A N
You would just have one App loyalty program.
You will extend UserProfile from User and the other models would be
Restaurant (name, branch location etc would be the attributes).
Your structure would depend on what are the various functionalities you
would like to add.

Your email doesn't say what you have read ("this" above?) so the
following recommendation may be a duplication. In any case I recommend
Two Scoops of Django[1] for well reasoned strategies for project design.
The authors use as their example an Ice Creamery and among the
sub-applications they design is a loyalty program. I would gues it won't
be too far away from your project.

On 2/06/2016 12:54 AM, [email protected] wrote:

I seen multiple project structure for Django, but they didn't discuss in

I see that some people use mixins.py , others utils folder.

Taking in consideration that I have many mixins for views(generic

and I don't know if using only 1 file mixins.py is the best solutions.

So, I'm looking for recommendations, from projects with many mixins
(views and models) ?

What works for me may not work for you. Just organise things the way you
feel comfortable. The bottom line is that if you use mixins they have to
be imported into the module where they are used.

That means ...

from overthere.mixins import thismixin

If you share mixins across a number of apps in the same project make an
extra app called "common" and make a directory mixins so ...

from common.mixins import thismixin

If you want to keep view and model mixins separate then ...

from common.views.mixins import thismixin

or

from app.views.mixins import thismixin

or

from . import thisviewmixin
from . import thismodelmixin

And so on. Make up a structure which suits your brain productivity-wise
so you don't have to think about where you are importing from and you
can go straight there without thinking when you want to edit them.

That's a great idea. So, I think the idea is to make the model flexible

accordingly.

I'll give it a try. Thanks a lot for the inspiration!

These are hard questions to answer without knowing more about your
contest app: how it works currently, what it does, what models it has,
and how you want it to work with a new contest each month.

I would imagine something like having a Contest model (maybe with a
start_date field and an end_date field?), so you can create a new
Contest anytime you want, and then having any other models in the app
all link (with a ForeignKey) to the Contest model, so all their
instances are specific to one Contest. That would be the more flexible
approach.

But I suppose if you are sure that you want "one contest each month" and
that's it, no more flexibility is needed, you could just add date fields
to some of the other models and then modify your queries to select only
objects for the current month?

Re: Django project structure

2016-02-04 Thread André Meyer-Vitali
Thanks for your reply, Carl.

How would I modify my contest app so that it knows about multiple contests?
Database models (and queries), templates, forms, urls need to be adapted, I
guess. Is it sufficient to add an ID to the models such that a specific
month's data can be selected, for example?

Is there an example to check out somewhere?

Cheers
André

I recommend simply modifying your contest app so that it knows about
multiple contests, not just one. That would be the usual way to approach
this.

(Django does have the "url namespace" feature, which lets you mount
multiple "instances" of an app's urlconf at different URLs, but that
feature doesn't do anything for you at the model or database layer, so
all the "instances" of the app would still share the same data. So I
doubt that this feature actually helps with your problem. Personally,
I've never actually found a good use case for url namespaces, outside of
contrib.admin.)

Re: Django project for multiple clients

If your clients are using different subdomains, like client1.webapp.com,
client2.webapp.com then you can have separate settings file per subdomain
and completely isolate the client data, but still use the same virtualenv
and codebase. You must also take care of the file upload/access because you
also need to isolate it.

This concept is called multi-tenancy.

I suggest you have a look at the django-tenant-schema
 application which
isolate each tenant in it's own PostgreSQL schema.

You could also build you own solution using a middleware and a database
router.

If you are copying your code from the question verbatim the problem
is in the mysite.urls.py file, it has this import::

from mysite.books import views

But there is no mysite.books Python module and that must be the cause
of the import error.

The parent mysite filesystem folder (the one with a manage.py file in it)
has nothing to do with this and isn't a Python module. It's simply
a container folder (you can rename to whe name you wish it if you can).

The books module is in the python module search
path so, to import a books app view you simply can use::

from books import views

The recommendation given in answer #2 to move the books app's Python
module under the mysite project python module is bogus because it takes
things back to where they were in Django <= 1.3.

All this is described in the documentation:

I don't see an answer there. I see one questions and three answers.

It would be great if yopu actually describe your problem with the the scenario
(concrete, simplified project/app hierarchy), the error you get,
including the full
stack trace, and what are you trying to do when it happens, and what do you mean
with 'ambiguity'.

Oh and also the version of Django you are using.

Hi Jingiqang Zhang,

I'm not clear on what you've done here.

If you're proposing this as a new format/style for the Django project
website, I have to advise that this is not a good start - it doesn't match
any of the Django project's style guidelines (our trademark colours and
fonts, for example).

You're free to propose new designs for Djangoproject.org if you want;
however, you should also be advised that the Django Software Foundation has
contracted a web design company to develop a new djangoproject website.

If you're proposing something else, I'm going to have to ask you to take
down the site, and approach the DSF to ask permission for what you're
looking to do. What you've presented at the moment violates the Django
trademark, and violates copyright by appropriating Django content without
permission.

George / Bob - That's exactly the pointer I needed 'exec' or 'eval'

Ryan - Celery is something I have been looking into, but I hadn't thought

few of the chaser functions are while loops which would hang up everything,

Re: Django project - Allow users to write a custom function and store in DB

2013-02-15 Thread Ryan Nowakowski
Robin,

You could store that code as a string in the database. Then to run it
you could execute it asynchronously using something like django-celery.
Have celery fork off a separate python process for each instance of code
execution.

By running code asynchronously, badly behaved code(loop forever, long
sleeps) aren't a deal breaker. By forking off a separate process you
can do all kinds of things to create a security sandbox. You could run
the process in a chroot or even a virtual machine.

Re: Django project and SVN loads older code versions

2012-09-25 Thread Joris
The reason why you are seeing this behaviour is because apache caches the
compiled python scripts. As apache has multiple threads, some still carry
old information, and some new. As HTTP is stateless, this is why you get
inconsistent behaviour. The situation is resolved by either reloading
apache or by using the testing server. The behaviour you describe cannot be
a result of SVN, as SVN is not affected upon refresh.

answer a help request:

* The code
* The purpose of the code
* What happens when they use the code
* What they want to happen when they use the code
* Some indication that they have read the fine manual and aren't
simply trying to get someone to do their work for them

4 out of 5 aint bad :)

Cheers

Thanks Tom - I will try that and report back.

(Sidebar: usually when people report issues here, the first response is
"show me the code". I thought I would start with the code ... and the
response has been "tell me the requirements" ... so it goes, I guess!)

TBH, this is the first time that you have elucidated your
requirements! Iit certainly wasn't clear you have a custom login form.

Where have you hooked this up to? Are you using
django.contrib.auth.views.login [1] to render this form?

How about this:

def root(request):
  from django.contrib.auth.views import login
  return login(request, 'my_template_name.html')

Refer to the docs if that doesn't work, I'm making many assumptions
about how you have configured your project. The link in [1] is
specifically about the login view, but the rest of that page is
concise and clear about how to hook up authentication into your
project.

You probably need to re-state your problem, as it is unclear what
result you want to happen. You want the admin at '/admin/', you don't
want to provide your own login view, but also don't want people to log
in at '/admin/' - what do you want?

Your initial workaround fails because it doesn't actually process the
page, it simply renders it, so submitting the form simply re-renders
the initial page.

If you want the admin app accessible from root, then put it there.
admin.site.urls does not have to be placed at r'^admin/', you can change
that to r'' (and get rid of your r'^$' entry), then you will have admin app
at root of your site with no admin prefix on the admin urls.

Wouldn't a @login_required on top of your root view solve your issue ?
You aren't logged, you get the login box and once you are logged, you get
redirected to the admin.

It's not an absolute no-no. View templates are pretty pointless,
because markup, page structure, CSS hooks, template {% block %}s etc.
differ so widely. However, small inclusion tags, if "atomic" enough,
may benefit from some default templates. If you want a default
template in your reusable app, structure it thusly:

myapp
/templates
/myapp
my_tag.html
/templatetags
myapp_tags.py

And refer to it simply as "myapp/my_tag.html". That way, the consumer
of your app can override it by having a "myapp/my_tag.html" of their
own in their project's templates directory.

Re: Django Project & App Structure

2010-05-14 Thread ryan west
Hey Scott, thanks for the reply!

I just figured that out the hard way actually, but I appreciate your
response.

My new directory structure now looks like:

/home/website/djangoprojects/mydjangoproject/
--- /
manage.py
--- /
settings.py
--- /
urls.py

/home/website/djangoapps/mydjangoapp/
-- /models.py
-- /admin.py
-- /urls.py
-- /view.py

My webserver (dreamhost) runs passenger, so I had to update my
passenger_wsgi.py file to include path of my projects (/home/website/
djangoprojects) as well as my apps (/home/website/djangoapps).

The tricky (at first) part came when I needed to fill the DB of my
project w/ tables required by my app(s). To do this, I had to add the
same paths above to my manage.py file, so that when it was executed
the paths would be in there for the script to find and import the
model information.

Voila, I now have created an app that is independent of it's
surrounding project. The only thing left is the fact that my app has
templates, which I understand is a no-no when making reusable apps.
I'll start working on that later, as I'm satisfied now with no strict
backwards dependencies.

Thanks again Scott.

I will be writing a blogpost about this shortly on how to create a
reusable django app on a shared webserver such as Dreamhost - in an
attempt to gather disparate information into one, easy to follow and
up to date post. I will post back with the perma when it's done.

If you're asking python to look for 'djangoapp', then it won't find it
in '/home/website/djangoapp'. (It would effectively be looking for '/
home/website/djangoapp/djangoapp' -- and failing.)

Doing sys.path.append('/home/website') should work.

Re: Django project layout - authentication

Correction:

We have a class 'LDAPBackend' with an authenticate function.
Then in the view we use 'authenticate' from django.contrib.auth and
if that returns None, we call the 'authenticate' bound to
'LDAPBackend'.
Does it make sense to have a separate app just for one class?
I assume the answer is no.

Re: Django Project Management App

2009-09-13 Thread Greg Brown

Cheers for the feedback folks. Just to be clear, my app doesn't handle
code repositories or bug tracking at all - it's very much a one-user
system at the moment. I actually just run it on my Macbook in a
terminal (applescripted on startup). It's somewhat similar to basecamp
I guess, albeit much simpler - per-project todo lists, time tracking,
and invoice generation are pretty much all it can do for now.

Anyway, once I've found some time to clean it up, I'll unleash it on
the world and see what happens...

Cheers,
Greg

Of course, do it.

There is one. I searched for an alternative to trac some time ago. Basie
can handle several SVN-Repositories (Trac does not) and uses django.

But I had to time to try it:

Re: Django Project Management App

2009-09-10 Thread Petar Radosevic

Hi Greg,

> I'm wondering if it would be worth open sourcing it?

I think it's always worthwhile to open-source software when there aren't
any other solutions in that area.

The coincidence is that we just created a invoice/quote admin
application
for Django. I'm still writing a blog post about it. But you can see it
here:

http://bitbucket.org/breadandpepper/django-brookie/

Maybe we could learn from your application because we just build this
one in
a 2 day sprint.

Petar
