Great, thanks for the news.

I'm hoping Debian will do a full rebuild to compile everything with reptoline,
as this seems a lot better to me than just mitigating when a specific problem
is found.

PS:

I'm not sure how you would install to the internal storage for some of those
devices, I was unable to do this on c201 yet so it might be tricky.

Re: [DNG] Devuan on ARM Notebooks

2018-04-23 Thread chillfan
At least two of the ASUS Chromebooks can be used with the embedded images on
files.devuan.org//embedded/

The two are:

acer chromebook (chomeacer.img.xz)
Veyron/rockchip (chromeveyron.img.xz)

I'm not familiar with all the models (wikipedia may help), but I can tell you
veyron works on the ASUS chromebook c201 (it's coreboot and optionally
libreboot if you install it).

There is also devsus by dimkr which is a libre Devuan build script for the c201:

https://notabug.org/dimkr/devsus but currently pending a merge request to fix
some issues so see: https://notabug.org/chillfan/devsus-ascii and go with the
master branch (jessie) which should be working right now.

Thanks,

chillfan

Hi Edward,

If you want to use slim as Display Manager you can do:
apt-get -s install slim libpolkit-backend-consolekit-1-0 libpolkit-gobject-
consolekit-1-0 libpam-ck-connector

Then remove the -s if all is OK.

Eventually you need to:
apt-get -s --purge remove elogind libelogind0 libpam-elogind

Same with the -s as above.

xfce is also known to work fine with lightdm if you don't want slim,. Then
replace slim with lightdm in the command above.

[DNG] New policykit-1 packages in ASCII

2018-04-23 Thread Edward Bartolo
Hi,

Session control permissions issue, XFCE under ASCII, resolved. I used
the command:

apt-get install libpolkit-backend-elogind-1-0

The resulting installation removed slim. So, I installed xdm, an
extremely antiquated display manager, but it works as expected on my
machine. If I show that to those whose software needs are dictated by
the latest software trends, they will laugh at me till they choke!

Nevertheless, thanks to everyone. At my age, it is impossible to be
impressed by 'shiny new stuff'.

Hi Rolf,

welcome home. The procedure and configuration for netboot is the same
as in Debian. Just download the .tar.gz you need:

 (jessie)
https://pkgmaster.devuan.org/devuan/dists/jessie/main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/netboot.tar.gz

 (ascii)
https://pkgmaster.devuan.org/devuan/dists/ascii/main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/netboot.tar.gz

tar -zxf it, and then let your bootp/dhcpd config point to the
relevant folder.

Hi,

I'm new on this list but an old (in age too) user of linux (since about
20 years) and, as you can imagine not a friend of systemd.
Till now I used Debian on my computers include a lot of kvm-based
virtual machines.
The current reason, why I join the mailing is, that I found no hints for
a bootp config for devuan either jessie nor ascii.

Is there something I can use?
