On the MAC, try appending the FQDN prager.homeip.net to the hostname:
freyja.prager.homeip.net
If that points to the problem, I do not own an Apple MAC, so can not tell
you how to have it include domain name by default.
Also, trying pinging the IP directly.

Geert,
Can you go find another hobby or somewhere else to troll? I have yet to
see any kind of usefulness to your belittling users and their questions.
And the cutesy changing of your name along with the witty only to you
signatures are quite draining.

Hi all,
I got something I can't wrap my head around. I have a QNAP NAS that I
thought would be nice for hosting a DNSMASQ service for DNS and DHCP.
Setup went smooth and all my Linux clients behave wonderfully, except my
Mac client:
Querying a host from Linux goes perfect:

Hi Chris,
I think the most proper way is to change hostname of machine to
something sensible. When you do not want random hostname, give it some
name. And let it use them.
Is there reason, why you cannot change name of the device on device
itself? Have you tried to supply hostname on dhcp-record
