is there a possibility to use MSXML4 to get a chunked (display) output?
Is it a really a matter of IE, or should it be possible to manipulate
the stylesheet (chunk.xsl) ?
any help would be appreciated,

How can I change chunk names of html files generated by Saxon using XSL DocBook
Stylesheet? I need msearch-ch01.html instead of ch01.html, etc...
You can set a parameter to use the id attribute as the filename.
In your customization layer, add this line:
xsl:param
My customization layer (my-htmlhelp-common.xsl) includes the modified
template below. It strips off everything but the file name from the graphic
entity URI. This is what gets coded in the IMG SRC of the HTML output.
By itself, this result means that the HTML Help compiler looks for the
graphic
