Most likely this is encoding issue. For legacy reasons DocBook stylesheets use ISO-8859-1 encoding whereas most current web serves expect that you upload content in UTF-8 encoding. Encoding can be easily changed, see http://www.sagehill.net/docbookxsl/OutputEncoding.html
