I think, this is not very important, because Making Docbook is not an everyday work. Only a very tiny percentage of docbook users ever will make docbook. For those who decide to do it, it should be the simplest task to download and install ant. Today it is very difficult to *make docbook*, it takes several hours to find all the resources needed, to modify the scripts, to evaluate the error messages. That's not because make is used, that's because other tasks seem to be more important than to streamline the build process. But it shows that the criteria of broad availability are not decisive. -- Holger Krug [EMAIL PROTECTED]

But I do wonder sometimes... Keep wondering Norm/Dan! make just plain ain't win32. Ant makes it for both groups. If I can understand it, most can, with a little steering. Regards DaveP

Unless you've done it before, the full list of 'bits I need' are quite tiresome to track down. Worth a webpage on both oasis, docbook.org and sourceforge perhaps, just putting the links together for latest stable versions? Regards DaveP

Having better and more automatically working making environment (based on make or ant) will be plus, but there are more important things I think. Normall people are not forced to build stylesheet. Even if they want to apply some patch before official release, they can usually get one or few modifed files from CVS and copy them over existing files. Build is neccessary only if new parameters are added. Jirka -- - Jirka Kosek e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.kosek.cz
