There is only one thing missing from your email. How did you try to
insert a page number? Step by step, what did you do?

I like the page style with the Writer icon in the header. Reasonably
uncluttered and easy on the eye. Also it gets the user recognising the Writer
icon without any wonder of what does it stand for.
