Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Re: Problems editing help files

2016-04-08 Thread Olivier Hallot
Hello Peter

some remarks
1)
git status: Strange... the modified file should have the full path listed

modified: path/to/file/filename.xhp

2)
git commit -m "3rd party"

You must give the name of the file you modified for commit. That is
git commit -m "3rd party" file1 file2 file3...

3)
git add help

This "help" stuff is already been under git control, no need ot add it
again.

4)
git status
Same as 1.

"git diff" will list the changes you did since last "git pull"

regards

Olivier

2016-04-08 Thread ptoye
Thanks Olivier. I don't have time now to do an interactive chat. Possibly
next week.

I'm sure that Git is great, but as with all such tools it has to do a lot of
things so it gets complicated fairly quickly. As an ex-software writer I
sympathise with the designer.

But here's a quick excerpt of a console session. There's just one changed
file 4 directories deep from /help/ which is the top level of the clone from
the LO site.

[libreoffice-documentation] Coming back to help

2016-04-08 Thread Sylvia Sánchez
Hello everyone!

I'm coming back to help after a long time. But I'm facing a problem:
I can't access to documents in ODF Authors because I'm not logged, and
I can't log in because I don't remember user and password. Is it
possible to recover my user or create another one?

Thank you very much and sorry for the nuisance,
Sylvia

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Getting Started 5.1

2016-04-08 Thread Andrew Wetmore
Sylvia, have you logged in?

Everybody, the attached file is a screenshot of what I mean. The existing
text says "You", which is direct and immediate, and is NOT the overuse of
"you" people have been talking about. The proposed change is "Everybody",
which is indirect and distant. It does not catch the reader the same way as
the original does.

I am beginning to think somebody heard "we say 'you' too much" and just
decided to get rid of "you" everywhere. The only places that need work are
where the text says something like "You then push the red button...", where
"You" is obviously not needed.

I do not think that the excessive use of "you" is good style. But team has to
decide this.
In any case, I do not see such much of "you" in popular science journals
(which have been writing really beautiful and plain language) and technical
documentation (that does not use "you" never).

PS: I am not native English speaker, of course.
