Many chapters of Writer Guide 6.4 need a review. They are in the
Drafts folder for that book on NextCloud. Can you help?

[libreoffice-documentation] Uploading files to the wiki

2020-06-23 Thread Steve (GMail)

All,

In publishing the Calc Guide, it was necessary to upload all the book
and chapter PDF and ODT files. A total of 34 files.

Earlier today I uploaded these one file at a time, which was a bit
laborious. Is there any way to quickly upload multiple files like these
to the wiki?

Regards,

Steve

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Re: Proposed Addition to Base Guide 6.2

2020-06-23 Thread Dan Lewis
It is described in detail in Chapter 3 Tables section: "Importing data
from other sources". This is very likely the page 114 to which Robert
also mentioned.

Doug,

Pretty sure that that has been described and present in the Base Guide
for a while now.

Not sure where you got the information that it wasn't possible. I is
unfortunate indeed if you got it from one of the regular information
sites for LibreOffice/OpenOffice.org (Ask, OOoForum, mailing list, etc).

[libreoffice-documentation] Calc Guide 7.0

2020-06-23 Thread Steve (GMail)

Hi Gordon,

Thanks again for your help with the 6.4 Calc Guide, it is much
appreciated.

I'm delighted to hear that you are interested in helping out with the
7.0 Calc Guide. If you visit the The Document Foundation’s wiki you will
find that the planned software release date for LibreOffice 7.0.0 final
is August 6th 2020.

Have you downloaded a version of 7.0 to try out? If not it would be
worth doing so, possibly as a parallel installation so that you don't
need to delete your current version of 6.4 yet. I use the Separate
Install GUI to achieve this - see
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/SI-GUI.

The Calc section of the Release Notes at
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/7.0 will give you an
idea of what's changing at 7.0. However that won't be the full story as
not all software changes find their way into the release notes - we will
only discover some changes by comparing the appearance and behaviour of
the 6.4 and 7.0 Calc software. If you do experiment with the 7.0 version
of Calc, please keep a note of any differences that you notice.

When I've finished publishing the 6.4 document, we'll be able to move
forward to the 7.0 update.

Regards,

Steve

Re[2]: [libreoffice-documentation] 6.4 Calc Guide

2020-06-23 Thread Steve (GMail)
Thanks Leo, I've made those changes and am just doing some final checks
of my own before issuing the guide, hopefully later today.

Please could you provide a list of the comments that you have on the
figures, so that we can make sure that they are addressed in Calc Guide
7.0?

Thanks,

Steve

Hej Steve,

I had some remarks about some figures, but they are of lower priority
and therefore I would suggest to take them into consideration for
version 7. On the other hand I have some more relevant remarks, which
you might consider:
both in the contents and the book: in the title of the chapter there is
a reference to Calc or LibreOffice, which seem unnecessary to me as it
is a guide about Calc: Chapter 1: could read "Introduction" - subtitle
could read "Using spreadsheets" (page 14)
Chapter 5: could read "Using Graphics" (page 183)Chapter 10: could read
"Linking Data" (page 334)Chapter 12: could read "Macros" (page
382)Chapter 14: could read "Setting up and Customizing" (page
433)Appendix B: could read "Error Codes" (page 484)
I would keep Chapter 13 "Calc as a Simple Database" as isTable 2 has an
old style (page 46)On page 245, there is a table without table heading
and it has no styleIf I am correct Drew's surname is Jensen and not
Jenson (page 2)

I very much like the alphabetical index! (page 490 ...)
Thanks for the great job!

Best regards

Leo

Hi Leo,

Many thanks for helping.

In this case, would it be possible for you to email a list of any
comments you want to raise? I have avoided editing the "big" .odt file
(apart from the first and last few pages) to avoid introducing
inconsistencies with the individual .odt files that we previously
updated and reviewed.

Steve

Hej Steve,

I will scan through the 6.4 Calc Guide. Is it possible to have the
odt version in NextCloud, so I can make a note if necessary.

Many thanks

Op 21/06/2020 om 22:27 schreef Steve (GMail):

All,

The 6.4 Calc Guide is, I believe, almost ready for publication. The
PDF version is available for inspection in the relevant Published
folder in Nextcloud (CG64-CalcGuide.pdf).

If anybody wishes to have glance at the PDF over the next 24 hours
then feel free to do so; please email me if you spot any problems.

I am not happy with the front and back pages. These are SVG format
images in the .ODT file but lose something in the translation to
PDF. Is this a known effect and is there a recommended solution?

One aspect of the document has not yet been reviewed by anybody and
that is the alphabetical index at the back. I would encourage any
team members to inspect this and let us know your thoughts. I hope
it is a useful addition for the intended readers of the guide but
others might think otherwise. It is straightforward to remove it
before publication if that proves necessary.

Finally, please could one of our experienced publishers advise me of
the steps necessary to actually publish a guide (beyond placing all
the files in the Published folder)?

Regards,

Steve Fanning
