Bob that reminds me of Dave shorter's episode near Mt Kaputar in NW NSW near
Narrabri. Don't know the circumstances leading to it but he and his aircraft
ended up lodged high in the tree canopy. Macca would know more.
Some friends set about recovering it some time later. Mark was as agile as a
monkey so he scored the job of climbing up to secure a harness and rope to the
airframe.
With the other end of the rope connected to a chopper it was eventually lifted
free and returned to its trailer in a pretty sad state.

 All,

 We had a
similar situation at Mount Beauty about 15 years ago.

An IS 28 stalled and went into
the trees on top of a ridge.

It was held hanging vertical by the tail
 plane.

 The canopy was
 smashed.

 The pilot and the
young boy pax simply undid their harness and stepped onto
a huge branch next to the cockpit.

At that stage there were no
injuries except for a few scratches on their
 face.

 The
young fellow got the jitters and jumped to the ground which
 was just a
bit too far, probably 25-30 ft
 up.

 Broke his arm.

We took a tow rope up with us
to the site, having first sighted the glider
in the tree, and first on site, and somehow got
it over a branch above the
 pilot and made a
safety harness to hold/tie him in the tree, because he
 was
 woozy, and close to faint.

Then the ses arrived and hour
and half later we had the pilot down in a
stretcher for the very steep decent to the
 roadway below.

 They cut the
huge tree down to get the glider down as they were worried
 it
would fall and spear down the slope into
 the road.

 If it wasn't
broken when it was in the tree it sure was after they got
 it
 down.

 Reminds me
of Patch and his book of 101 things to do with a Blanik.

 He would probably suggest this
to be entered into 101 things to do with a
 G109.

Is this guy lucky or what.

Reminds me of a scene in Air
America where Mel Gibson releases his harness
to drop to the ground to avoid being a sitting
duck. I bet it never entered
 this guys
 mind.

 That is still a long
 way up.

 Nige.
