It is, and we configured it to use dotlock.

Hello,
I run DovecotĀ 2.3.2.1 and I keep separate index / control files:
mail_location =
maildir:~/Maildir:INDEX=/liveindexes/indexes/%d/%n:CONTROL=/liveindexes/control/%d/%n
When I try to set an ACL on a folder, I get this error:
Dec 26 17:35:56 imap2 dovecot: imap(u...@domain.com): Error:
Yes, the second time it obviously runs very very fast ( under 1 sec ), but I
wanted to compare indexing speeds when there is no index present. Anyone has
some numbers ?

Hi, have two quick questions:
I am re-indexing some large mailboxes and I wanted to get some opinions on
these speeds. I ran a random sort command on an unindexed mailbox in order to
get it to index. Results, for a mailbox with 10GB Inbox, spread in 65 000 files:
3 UID SORT (ARRIVAL) US-ASCII OR
;extra_fields, "authlocation")

I am using FreeBSD 10.1 and Dovecot 2.2.22 with the Openchange plugin -

The plugin compiles just fine and works up
Are there any mail clients that automatically pull in folder contents
even though they don't have a subscription to that folder ?
I have defined a namespace with subscriptions=yes, hidden=yes and
list=yes. There are no subscriptions files for any of the users yet
they are still pulling
So let me ask another way then..
can you have folders visible when doing LIST % but which won't be
used by the e-mail client unless subscribed to ?
I mean, what is the point of subscriptions if the e-mail client pulls
in everything anyways ?

I can't get dovecot to ignore a certain directory/namespace when
calculating quotas.
I am running dovecot 1.2.16 with vpopmail configured for quotas.
I use the dot (.) as my separator and my user structure is as follows:
../domain.com/user/Maildir for all the user directories
I also have
I made a bit of headway but not too much.
I discovered that the order of the namespaces is very important.
The reason why dovecot was updating the maildirsize file under Archive
was because the Archive namespace was defined first.
I now define the root inbox first and Archive second and
I've done it. Thank you list for letting me bounce my ideas off you :)
This stuff should be documented somewhere and save someone else a lot of work.
Here are the crucial steps you need to remember.
1. Namespace order is very important in the config file. Always keep
your default namespace
I use dovecot 1.2.16 and I use . (dot) as the hierarchy separator.
My user structure is like so:
username/Maildir/.Folder1
username/Maildir/.Folder1.Subfolder
The Inbox is right under:
username/Maildir/cur username/Maildir/new
My namespace definition for the regular mail is:
namespace
My Dovecot config is as follows:
# 1.2.14: /usr/local/etc/dovecot.conf
# OS: FreeBSD 6.3-RELEASE i386
protocols: imap pop3 imaps pop3s
listen(default): *:143
listen(imap): *:143
listen(pop3): *:110
ssl_listen(default): *:993
ssl_listen(imap): *:993
ssl_listen(pop3): *:995

Anyone has any ideas ?
I also realized that not only can domains be placed within another
sub-folder if there are too many, but so can users.
For example, if a domain has 1000 users, its path might be something like:
/usr/home/vpopmail/domains/8/xyz.com/A/myuser
Therefore a static location
I might have forgotten to mention that I am using . (dot) as separator.
Your original message that proposed that fix is here:
http://www.mail-archive.com/dovecot@dovecot.org/msg20706.html
I am running the IMAP commands directly through telnet and although
the namespace exists, it doesn't show
Ok. We are getting closer I believe:
If I run with a hardcoded location, my list * shows the shared folders:
* LIST (\HasNoChildren) . shared.dev1.Sent items
* LIST (\HasNoChildren) . shared.qmail.INBOX
* LIST (\HasNoChildren) . shared.radius.INBOX
If I run with %%h I don't see the shared.
Maybe I'm missing some part of the configuration. I don't have a
service auth { part and the auth_socket_path is commented out. Here is
my full config:
# 1.2.14: /usr/local/etc/dovecot.conf
# OS: FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE i386
protocols: imap pop3 imaps pop3s
listen(default): *:143
Another issue appeared however. I added these lines:
socket listen {
master {
# Typically under base_dir/, if not the directory must be created.
path = /var/run/dovecot/auth-master
mode = 0600
user = vpopmail # User running deliver
#group = mail # Or
I'm using dovecot 1.2.14 with vpopmail.
I've enabled shared folders and the default setup was not working. The
default setup being this line:
location = maildir:%%h/Maildir:INDEX=~/Maildir/shared/%%u
Going through the Archives I saw a message from Timo that said to
apply a patch and use
I believe I have uncovered an Outlook bug. I've searched on the
Internet a bit but I didn't find much on this particular topic.
Basically it seems that Outlook (I'm using 2007) is overwriting
