I've noticed that my MRU menu items do not update when I perform
searches. Is there another setting, besides menuMRUlength, which needs
to be set in order for this functionality to work?

Are you entering the searches with a menu selection or by typing a shortcut?
I think they are only updated when the searches are selected from the menu
(which could be changed/fixed).
