[DQSD-Users] Re: DQSD-Users digest, Vol 1 #489 - 9 msgs

2003-12-15 Thread Tom Corcoran
Hi Shawn,

Which version of DQSD, and are you running the Google toolbar/deskbar?
The 3.1.8 version includes the Google-toolbar-style keyboard hooks,
which I imagine, when used on a system that also has that installed,
 would experience keyboard-hook blocking.

This happened with 3.1.6. I'll check if the google toolbar is running on the
machine though it shouldn;t be a problem with that version it seems. Have
not installed 3.1.8 yet.

Cheers, Tom.

I took care of the form and function names in the upsave.xml attachment.
Guy, will you kindly update the url and content to
http://upsave.com/downloads/upsave.xml ?

'US' is too common a term. Make it 'UpSave', and I think it
 will work.

Hi Ken,

   Have not installed 3.1.8 yet.

Is 3.1.8 released, or is it just a beta version?

It's just a beta, so far. We've found a couple of bugs in it, of which
most are fixed, and I hope we'll find the time to drop another beta
build before christmas, and then build a final version after christmas.

Thanks very much. If the final version will be out in a few weeks,
I'll wait then. Will you announce it here when it's ready?

I'll send out an announcement to the DQSD-Announce list, but I suppose
I'll CC it here as well. Makes sense.

Hi Tom,

This happened with 3.1.6. I'll check if the google toolbar

 with that version it seems.

It might be a problem if you're using the 'modified' google search I
created a couple weeks ago - but I doubt it.

I recently exerienced the same error yesterday on my own system when I
inadvertently attempted to start a second DQSD search bar. Since the
keyboard hook was already in use (byt the first one) the second one
could not create the hook, and failed.

Check to see if you might have two instances of DQSD running - that
might be it. When the caption is hidden and it's 'shrunk' all the way
it's VERY skinny on my system - just a few pixels.

Shawn K. Hall

RE: [DQSD-Users] GTwhois Search fails

However, I wonder how kosher that would be...? If GeekTools recognized
this
as a problem, and took measures, maybe they don't want to expose their
service other than from the actual web.

Good question. I'd have to agree with you on that. I'm just familure with
gtwhois so I figured why not make it work. Hopefully they will respond to
Shawn's email with a positive note. Else, I'll find a new whois search :)
Thanks guys!

Subject: RE: [DQSD-Users] GTwhois Search fails

Hi Ian,

It looks like geektools (gtwhois search) is now checking the
 referer to make
sure it comes from their site. Is there anyway to spoof that in DQSD?

I'm not sure if it's possible to spoof the refer(r)er from within DQSD, my
guess is not without considerable work.

However, I wonder how kosher that would be...? If GeekTools recognized this
as a problem, and took measures, maybe they don't want to expose their
service other than from the actual web.

I'm not sure if there is some 'DQSD code of honor', but I suggest the
gtwhois search should probably be dropped from DQSD instead.

Besides, there are like 7 other whois tools (? whois) bundled with DQSD, so
it's not like gtwhois is unique.

Just my 2c - other opinions?

Kim
