Re: [DQSD-Users] Web button graphics (attached)

2003-09-05 Thread S.V. Groeneveld

Yeah, I also hide all titles and stuff on the
taskbar, to get the maximum space possible, and I would never display a static image...

However, a graphic (or short text) that
represents the current default search method would be quite nice...

For example, you could add a graphic for
various search engines (like the Google or Download.com logo) or
if the graphic for that search engine is not present, use the shortcut text
(like "gg" or "av" or "freedb")... In that case it would definitely add extra
functionality ;-)

As long as you can hide it, like you can with the
word 'Search', then I guess it is not a problem.  I just don't understand
why anyone would want to have part of their taskbar wasted on a graphic that
  doesn't do anything.

How about having a graphic as an alternative display format for the
menu button? Would anyone be interested in having an image instead of
">>" (»)?

RE: [DQSD-Users] Web button graphics (attached)

2003-09-05 Thread Monty Scroggins

If I am understanding it properly:
The word "Search" isnt necessary with the graphic. IMO - the graphic should replace
the word "Search" entirely.. The graphic could be displayed or not according to the
users preferences, although I dont know if hotbot is allowing the user to turn off the
graphic..

Hi Monty,

> How does changing the word "Search" with a graphic of
> the same size increase the amount of space used?

You can remove the word "Search" by right-clicking and selecting "Show Title". With
the graphic - it would take up the length of "Search" and the width of the graphic as
well.

Not that it makes a difference, but the graphic can be any size too - you could, for
example, use a 20x16 image that relates to the search wizard, or you could use your
own website logo - like hotbot does. When I made the mods I was thinking this could be
used to encourage other providers to distribute it.

Hi Monty,

What might be nifty is to have a small dqsd graphic
displayed in place of the word "Search", like the
hotbot version of dqsd has... its a tiny little
improvement, but it adds an advertisement along with
being a little more visually appealing...
Is this something many people would want? I coded it up (a few changes to
search.htm). It's disableable via changing a line in prefs. You can also
change the url and size of the image.
Is anyone interested? Personally, I think it's a waste of space on the
taskbar, but - if anyone's wants it...
