RE: [DQSD-Users] multi aliases problem solved

2005-01-06 Thread Shawn K. Hall
Hi Jean-Marie,

this one did the trick. Shawn, I already got that
little secret uncovered. Where did you get that
information about the syntax for that multi ? Trial
and error or is there a place to look in ?

It's in the help for the search (?multi), though it should probably
have a full page devoted to it:

'//
multi

MultiSearch
Perform multiple searches with a single command line expression.

superMultiModeEnabled can be set to true in localprefs.js to enable
super multi mode which allows different sets of searches to be done
(ie: multi search1 /firstParam; search2 search3 /secondParam)

superMultiModeSepChar can be set to a character in localprefs.js to
determine the split character for the super multi mode the default
value is ;
Usage:
multi search1 [search2 [...]] term

Example:

multi av gg wood planes - Display the search results for wood
planes on altavista and google.

multi fm;sf hs /new - Display the new projects and files on
freshmeat, sourceforge, and hotscripts provided
superMultiModeEnabled is set to true in localprefs.js.
'//

With over 300 searches you can easily expect to spend a year
learning each search, and making your own. I've committed over a
dozen searches I've made to DQSD and my own 'localsearches' folder
currently has 15 searches in it - most of them are for different
sites I work on, and I have a 'tester' search specifically for
helping to create new searches.

I think we ought to do a 'search a day' type thing where the fine
points of specific searches are detailed so people know what's
available to them. Is anyone interested in that? I'd cover the
searches I use myself first, of course. ;)

Shawn K. Hall

RE: [DQSD-Users] Can I have Merriam Webster be the default dict?

2005-01-06 Thread Shawn K. Hall
Hi Kerry,

Is there a way to have Merriam Webster be the default
dictionary - it has free pronunciation.

You can control DQSD just about any way you could want. To override
any existing search with another you just create an alias that
overwrites the existing mapping. Add this to localaliases.txt, on
it's own line:

  dic|mwd %s

This will change the behavior of dic to search the Merriam Webster
instead. HOWEVER, you can also shorten that a bit by using the
default shorter search alias for MW of :. Try this in DQSD (note
the preceeding colon):

  :whatever

Hi again,

Cate Eales brought to our attention that DQSD 3.1.9 did not work with

Unfortunately, Christmas came in the way, and we haven't had time to fix it

Hi James,

Thanks for the replies. I've tried
http://www.dqsd.net/install.htm but am getting an error
popping up - A runtime error has occurred.
Line: 1 Error: Access is denied.

FWIW, I get the same error. I think it's something to do with the fact that
the page is trying to change the current zone behind the scenes.

Is it not possible in NT4 to right-click the taskbar and get an Add Quick

2005-01-06 Thread Monty Scroggins

wow I dont think I have ever even looked at this htm file.. I have no
idea if the "alternate" instructions still apply .. but are the
instructions from the webpage correct?

Download and run dqsd.exe as usual.
Right-click on your Windows Explorer taskbar and select Toolbars
 Add New Toolbar...
When it prompts you for a folder, type in the following URL: http://notesbydave.com/toolbar/install.htm
(be sure not to copy in any spaces at the beginning or the end)
The Quick Search bar should appear.

shouldn't the URL in step 3 be "file://c:\Program Files\Quick Search
Deskbar\search.htm" ??

Hi Monty,

I tried pointing directly at search.htm using a file:// URL, but that didn't
work. It requires a http:// URL, for some reason.
I think this is all supported by the fact that the current DQSD host is part
of IE or the shell.

Re: [DQSD-Users] Can I have Merriam Webster be the default dict?

2005-01-06 Thread Kerry
Thanks Shawn,
: wordtobedefined worked great, however, even though the MW site came
up with the word defined I also got a desktop message DQSD failed to
parse on-line version information. Error message: The download of the
specific resource has failed.

And, now when I single, dbl, or right click on the the tool tray
expands and I can't get the DQSD menu but I can get the calendar by
right clicking in the search field . The day and date shows fine.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,

Brent,

In order to save more keystrokes I modified the tinyurl
search to paste the tinyurl for the specified long url in the
 DQSD text box.

You're a star! I love it. I think you should post it to the users list, so
people can install the new one if they want.

Hi Kerry,

...it's behaving differently than before when I had XP
 Home and before ServicePack 2...

When you get the taskbar sized and shaped exactly the way you want
it (the quick launch toolbar, DQSD and the 'rest' of it) you can
right click over the taskbar and check 'lock taskbar/toolbars' (or
something like that) to prevent them from resizing on you.
