Long ago I ran a huge R-388/51J3 on a smaller inverter and it worked fine.

Ron's method is very accurate, as long as you verify the resistance of the
cathode resistors.
Part of a restoration usually involves replacing the meter shunt resistor, (R36, with a 1W,) and
then selecting a calibration resistor, (R38,) to make the panel meter read 70 mA (little mark

Carl,
You should adjust for the correct current. That said, the meter is at best
difficult to read accurately.
The better way is to measure the voltage drop across the cathode resistors. R32

Hey, Kevin,
Until you can find a parts rig with a good contact, jumper the power switch
and switch the AC-4 with a power strip or other external means.
From what I've heard, the switches are made of Unobtanium.

Hello all--
I'm still new to the Drake world and just today got the T-4X I've been
restoring over the past few months working thanks to one of Garey's CD-ROMs.
I've got a question for the experts, however: I've read the instructions and
set the bias control on my AC-4 so the plate amperes meter
well my idea was to use the t4x and r4a as my am station. i did so a similar
mod that made resting carrier adjustable to 20 watts. that was nice but then
ssb would not play right. only one reply on this one so i am thinking this
is not a very popular subject HI

Fellow Drake Enthusiasts,
The R.L. Drake Virtual Museum http://www.dproducts.be/drake_museum/ is for the
time being not updated. The reason for this is that I have no access to the
server after my museum-partner passed away last Christmas.Hopefully the ISP who
hosts the files will help me. I'm

You can keep the mic gain down and reference a PEP reading wattmeter. This

OK, discovered something else...looks like Drake aligned the tuning
rack based on a RED DOT coils form set.
The brown glyptol is intact.
But, My coils do not have any dots on them...did they go away? Or did
Drake change the way they did this?
I really don't want to touch them as they are all t

OK, decided today to align my T-4XC.
According to the manual, RF & Mixer stage trimmer alignment

trimmers.
Is this really neccessary? or can I just peak for max drive on all
trimmers??

I have purchased several parts from John Kriner in the last few years, but he

Or, in my advanced age, maybe it was Jeff Covelli that didn't sell

Kevin,
I have replaced several switches by prying off the bad one, and installing a
new switch by trimming back the mounting tabs, and tack soldering it on. There
are a few different styles of switches so you will need to locate the correct
style. Back in the day Drake used to offer these so c
