I think a foolproof way to identify a real TR7A is to look at the cable from
the mic input to the spare phono plug at the back. When this is done at the
factory this cable is well and truly embedded in the wiring harness and is
certainly not a last minute add on. John GI3KDR.
Thom. The list has helped me greatly over the last two years. It is also far
superior to Ebay for selling Drake items to enthusiasts. Best Regards. John

I wish to sell this receiver which I bought from Evert,PA2KW, when he
advertised it on this list last year.
As Evert said then this receiverlooks new straight from the factory. He
bought it from the first owner, and it came from a non-smoking environment.

I am using my TR7 with a modern linear and have come up with what can best
be described as an irritation rather than a problem.
The linear requires only 20watts drive for 400 watts out (our limit).
In SSB the only output control on the TR7 is the Mic Gain.It is a real
fiddle to adjust this for 20
that says all this for less than
one S-Unit?!??

I have had only one transaction with Radiomart and it was perfectly
successful. He offered a Drake RV7 in his usual glowing language. I asked a
question which was promptly answered and then bid and won it.
The RV7 was packed carefully and shipped quickly.
On opening the box I found that the
The HC4 and HC5 elements in the HM10 are low impedance wheras the Drake
microphone inputs are high impedance.
Heil does make a microphone for Drake and Collins vintage radios. It has a
built in impedance changing transformer. It is known as the GMV.

Hello David. I had the same problem when I attempted to set 80M output at a
much lower level. In the end I went back to 140W on 80M and this gives me
100W at 29.5 with the ALC light extinguishing. John. GI3KDR

If the definition of a genuine TR7A is one that was produced in Miamisburg I
believe that the following 4 criteria apply with item 4 being TOTALLY
critical:
1. Front Panel perspex strip reads TR7A.
2. Serial number above about 11000 (mine is 11365)
3.The spare RCA connector on the back is now
My voice has virtually no bass in it and I am told my transmit signal from
my TR7 plus Drake 7077 microphone is too high pitched. Can someone help me
with a simple circuit to boost bass output from the microphone or offer me
other suggestions to solve the problem?John. GI3KDR.

The exchanges, initiated by Jim, on this subject have interested me
greatly as I bought an R7 recently. I bought through an ad placed on the
Drakelist by a member and a very successful transaction resulted. The radio
is the closest to a new Drake that I have ever owned!
It has two modifications
Does anyone have any experience or comment and recommendations about such a
combination?John. GI3KDR

Hello Bill. To me a Transmatch and an Aerial Tuning Unit are one and the

I have been using my TR7A with a non Drake Power Supply. When I do this the
front panel on off switch switches the 12v. I always thought this strange as
it is supposed to switch the main supply to the PS7. Two questions:
1. Is it normal that it switches 12v?
2. Is it switching the full 23amps or
functional. If it is, then you are probably ok.
