Thanks for info. Yes it also has the popping sounds when going thru 1KHz
transitions on the display... also a bit annoying.
The other thing I notice is that I have to operate passband offset control
to resolve almost any signal. i.e. needs to be in 9 O'Clock position for USB
and 1 O'Clock position for LSB. Also needs some deft adjustment for AM
reception also, even when using 6KHz and 4KHz filters. The manual states
that this control should be left at 12
O'Clock "zeroed" position for all reception, unless it needs adjustment to
cut interfering signals, but USB is unintelligible in the zeroed position.
Also, when tuning thru AM signals with 6KHz or 4KHz filter selected, as you
tune thru the signal it sounds like a much narrower filter is selected, as
you get a sort of "thru a drainpipe" type of sound as you tune thru... I
would have thought there would be no such effect with such a wide filter.
I've certainly never noticed it on other receivers in this mode. This is
strange as all the test reports I read claim excellent audio quality on AM
for this receiver (and for all other modes).
Is this also normal? Beginning to suspect that this receiver needs a good
alignment. (or it's already had one!!!). My other suspicion is that one
of the early RF stages is on verge of oscillation? This might explain the
increased noise also.. just a thought.
Anyone know where I can download a service manual for this receiver, or is
it too recent? Had no luck so far.
