The ultimate goal is to destage the job submission ABI, so that it is enabled in default builds of the kernel (currently they are protected by the STAGING option). The current staging ABI is no longer adequate for existing use-cases, so we may want to remove it when destaging so we don't have to keep maintaining it indefinitely. For now, the old ABI will stick around at least until the new ABI is finalized.
