A little further info here -- I should add that the items are being
submitted to collections without a workflow. This seems to be where
'Submitted by' is added to the provenance text (based on the firstStep
variable). Do items need to go through a workflow to have this text
added? Possibly relat
We did an upgrade to Ubuntu last night and now our handle server quits
immediately on trying to start it. Unfortunately, the person who set up
our handle server has left our organization.

That's an error we uncovered just after the 7.4 release (unfortunately). It's
already been fixed in the codebase, so you could copy the fix...or wait for 7.5
(due in Feb) when the fix will be released.
