Hello Kevin,
have you deleted your browser and/or tomcat cache? It helped sometimes,
when I run in these kinds of problems.
To delete the Tomcat cache, stop the tomcat and remove the
'tomcatX/work'-directory.

I have added a new browse?type=institute into dspace.cfg added message keys
in messages.xml and rndexed discovery.
However this doesn't appear in the right hand Browse facet while others
custom types do?
Any ideas
