Hi all,

I'm trying to run filter-media over some tiff images which range between
200 and 500Mb in size and it is failing with:

$ ./filter-media -n -i 2123/5483
Applying Media Filters
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

I'm running:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
java version "1.5.0_20"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_20-b02)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_20-b02, mixed mode)

O/S - RHEL AS 5, 32-bit

DSpace 1.5.0
---------------------------------------------------------------------

I've tried upping memory and it seems the most I can allocate is about
2.5G. From what I've read, my only other option is running a 64-bit JVM.
Can I do that on a 32-bit machine and if so, what other things might I
risk breaking? Or does anyone have a better solution - this machine has
8G memory so if I could increase java's memory usage somehow, there's
plenty to play with and I'm sure java could grab enough to process these
images.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
Gary
