such as all of the operations by G3SXW and G3TXF to
FH, FW, ZD7, ZD9, ZL7 etc,

He DID upgrade to Extra Class in time. At 12 years of age, it took some
time for him to learn all he needed to know to pass the Advanced and Extra
Class Exams.
Perhaps I should have written 'not (then)' instead of not (yet).

I don't know. It sort of reminds me of the "I want it all now" mentality that is rather prevalent today. I have seen some fairly young extra class licenses --- some much younger than 12 years old.
There was a time when you had to be licensed for one year before you could become a class A

to SV5 and worked CW only. Not really DXpeditions but
more like holliday operation.
Will go somewhere again and probably only CW
or 99% CW.
