Re: [DX-CHAT] new rule??

2006-06-16 Thread Zack Widup

I think it has happened more than once, in the history of DXCC, that
someone found a new place they thought would qualify as a new country by
the existing rules and also thought they could get there first, so they
pushed to have that new country established on the list and then went and
operated from there.

All the participants, not wishing to be left behind, went ahead and worked
(or tried to work) it. And so it stuck.

Hey Tom I like the Worked all phone booth award. Not many of those left
in our country and it would be a challenge. I can just see setting up an HF
station in a phone booth. Man the terrorist alert would go out in a hurry.

The idea that a rock is a country makes a LOT of sense to the country that owns it. You get the undersea oil rights for a radius of 100 miles or some such...

[DX-CHAT] Fuel Pump Noise

2006-06-16 Thread Steve-KF2TI
Good afternoon, since losing the Jeep (15 mpg) for a Subaru Wagon
(28+ mpg), I hve reinstalled my setup:

Icom 706/turbo tuner/Little Targheel antenna (using Tri-Magnet
mounts..I had to, no place to mount antenna brackets and I don't like
those ball mount thingies, as the car washes keep yanking them off)

What I would like is some advise as I have definte fuel pump noise,
primarily on 20 meters about every 3-4 kc about S4 that goes away
when you turn off the engine

K2BJ's site is down or off completely and he had some great ideas
posted there. I went to K0BG's site and he mentions fuel pumps but
oiffers no fix (unless I missed it)

Anyone have experience in either eliminating or reducing fuel pump
noise..short of getting another car that is

Thanks

National Park Service had PacBell remove the world's loneliest phone booth was
that due to publicity, it was attracting too much attention and people were
starting to visit it. Imagine that... people visiting a nattional park to view

And we wonder why they won't let us on Desecheo or Navassa...

Steve, the RFI reflector at Contesting.org recently had a thread on this topic.
http://www.contesting.com/FAQ/rfi . [Not so recently; I just checked. See next
PP.]

[Saved you some searching. Here's a summation of fuel pump noise topics:
http://lists.contesting.com/archives//cgi-bin/namazu.cgi?query=fuel+pumpsubmit=Search%21idxname=RFImax=20result=normalsort=score

Nothing specific on Subaru, but it'll give you some ideas or maybe you can join
the reflector and ask.]

I'd go back to the Jeep. My Grand Cherokee gets up to 23 mpg, no RFI. Too many
front end problems with Subarus with which I have been associated; offsets the
savings on gas. X;{
