[DX-CHAT] Shortened Coiled Ants - Caution

Shortened "coiled" dipoles and verticals exhibit a large amount of inductive reactance. Even if the overall impedance is 50 Ohms, the large voltages on the feed line cause by the large inductive reactive component can result in ATT or final transistor failure. Never use the ATT in your rig or direc

Measuring tape antennas have also been around for years; nothing new there, and they have the added advantage of letting you know exactly how long they are.    Regardless, since I'm not the one interested in building a Slinky antenna, any suggestions on alternate materials and/or uses for th

Ron - Why not use a cheap metal measuring tape?  Original "slinky(s)" are collectables and may be worth enough money to buy a real antenna. :-))) 73, Jay/AF2C At 08:22 PM 1/27/03 -0500, you wrote: Dave,   I've never heard of a vertical slinky, but I have heard of horizontal dipoles made out

Dave,   I've never heard of a vertical slinky, but I have heard of horizontal dipoles made out of them.  So long as you have some way of keeping the slinky(s) suspended vertically (using a long dowel or set of dowels, or suspending the top from a skyhook attached to a tree branch come to mind

I have heard of them used in a horizontal plane. Knowing the characteristics of the slinky you would have to have some method of keeping the rings extended in the vertical position . . . gravity would cause the links to collapse to the bottom. Ron Visit my Website at: www.qsl.net/nd5s - Ori

For comments,     Has anyone ever thought of using a couple of slinky's to make a vertical antenna?  I located some slinky's and plan to construct a dipole either fed with coax or open wire feeder.  Considering I don't have alot of antenna room to fool around with, I hope it'll work.   Dav

As a (former) long time QSL Bureau Volunteer Sorter, I have seen MANY QSL's for inactive calls. Usually, these are from DXpeditions who fill out cards to ALL log entries and send the unclaimed cards via the bureaus after some period of time. Obviously there are a number of 'busted calls' in the l

As most, I have anguished over those "worked, but not confirmed" cards? Thanks to 10, unnamed to protect the guilty, DX stations, I am on my way to "confirmed, but not worked, 160 meter, DXCC"! Yep...I'm the owner of 10 cards from DX stations that "thought they worked me on 160! Do I know whom they
