British Empire Radio Union - ever since our little tussle in 1776 we in
the USA haven't been permitted to join in this contest. :-)

[DX-CHAT] Antenna for 30m?

2007-03-11 Thread Barry
I currently have no antennas for the WARC bands (30,17 and 12.) On
occasion, I use my 80m slopers on 30m and my 40m Yagi on 17 and 12.
They work, but not well.

Looking a propagation into BS7H-land, looks like 30m may be the best
shot from the east coast, so I'm thinking maybe I should put up a
temporary antenna for that band. I don't want anything permanent as it
would mess up the pattern of my tribander stack.

I have a single tower with multiple TH7s, a 2 el 40 at the top, and a
bunch of wires for 80 and 160. There are no trees anywhere near the
tower. Any suggestions on what my best option would be for a temporary
30m antenna fed with coax? Inv vee? 1/2 wave sloper?

Tnx,
Barry

RE: [DX-CHAT] Antenna for 30m?

2007-03-11 Thread Charles Harpole
I have had good luck with the Cushcraft D3W which is a single element alum.
tubing and traps antenna for all three WARC bands in one antenna. It mounts
at the center and thus can be rotated easily or mated with other beams on a
mast. I used mine on VU4 with good results (with the DX gain added, of
course).

I highly recommend it as a simple and effective ant. 73

[DX-CHAT] odd call sign

2007-03-11 Thread Charles Harpole

Hrd on 20 m phone the other day:

DDXX1DBT signing in a LSB CQ near c enter of phone band. The YL answering
said that it is a club station. When I advised her to use USB on 20m and
implied a query about her being a licensed ham, she went QRT with no
notation of same.
