Mark, Put up a vertical! Build a cat elevator, buy a shotgun, buy an amp, work longpath and try to work the stn again but shortpath, put a scarecrow at the end of the boom, put up a sign on the boom that says slippery when wet, get into falconry.. See there's plenty of methods! Now try that birds! Re: [DX-CHAT] Birds
A friend put a plastic owl on his boom and that solved his problem. Available at Home Depot. Re: [DX-CHAT] Birds
Didn't have a problem with the antennas, but a plastic owl worked for keeping them out of my blueberries. Moved it around every few days. See there's plenty of methods! Actually there are bird-repellant wraps you can get for more or less horizontal surfaces, see http://www.birdbgone.com/products/bird-spikes/ Dunno what the metal ones would do to the antenna characteristics, but should broaden the bandwidth. While this potentially works, I believe I read somewhere of the necessity of having it north-facing. I'm still trying to ascertain whether it should be true-north or magnetic north, personally. A Sheridan pellet rifle, 5mm works perfectly here. Steve, N4JQQ Peter W2IRT wrote: While this potentially works, I believe I read somewhere of the necessity of having it north-facing. Operate QRO. I have plenty of birds, maybe they don't like the fiberglass element sheaths on the SteppIR?
