Re: [DX-CHAT] Contribute to 7O6T

2012-05-22 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK

The writeup on their web page isn't very clear, but I went through it and
here's what happens:

Start at http://www.yemen2012.com/log.php and enter your callsign. You'll
get the chart showing where the contacts have been made, along with a
button below that to Request QSL Click on that, then fill in the QSO
details for each QSO. (Note: If you're a registered Clublog user and have
logged in there and you've already uploaded your log, Clublog will
pre-populate the QSO data for you.) I don't have the exact steps because
I've already requested my cards and Clublog is smart enough to know that,
but what happens is that you submit the form with the QSO data, then it
calculates the charges and provides room for you to enter an optional
additional donation. After submitting that form, it will take you to the
Paypal site, where you can log in. ( I believe there's also a process to
use Paypal without logging in.) Each QSO is listed individually with the
detail as part of your order, so you can double-check the QSO data there.
At that point, you process the payment and you're done.

It sounds like a lot of steps, but in practice it's very easy, and you can
walk all the way through it just prior to submitting the payment via PayPal
if you want to see how it works.

[DX-CHAT] Costa Rica licensing

2011-05-30 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK

I'm going to be on vacation in Costa Rica in July for a week and I was
wondering if anyone has any information about licensing beyond what's here:
http://www.qsl.net/oh2mcn/ti.htm?

While I would like to get on the air, my trip is a vacation with friends and
we're staying about a 5 or 6 hour drive (each way) from San Jose (we're
flying into and out of Liberia) and I didn't want to give up a whole day
just to get the license. On top of that, other than knowing how to ask for a
beer and a few other essentials, my Spanish is non-existent. From what the
web page says, that might be a problem.

I was wondering if anyone knows if perhaps it's now possible ot get licensed
via mail or the Internet? If not, I guess I'll just have to take a pass this
time.

[DX-CHAT] Websites, logs, etc. for PJ operations

2010-10-17 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK

Hi,

I hope this is appropriate for this list: I wanted to pass on that I've
created a web page that lists all the websites, logs, and similar
information I could find about the ongoing operations for the new PJ
entities. The list doesn't contain qrz.com links for any of the operations,
and I've not included websites that belong to the operators of the
DXpedition unless it contains information specific to the operation. There
are plenty of other sites that list the operations themselves (I recommend
ng3k.com), but I thought this this list would come in handy. The page is at
http://k2dbk.blogspot.com/p/websites-for-101010-operations-from-pj2.html and
I'd be more than happy to update it with any additional information that
anyone might have.

Happy hunting!

Re: [DX-CHAT] msnbc.com: Family electrocuted putting up radio antenna

I found more information here:
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/breakingnews/orl-bk-palm-bay-family-electrocuted-101309,0,4124089.story

The last names are mentioned, but there is nobody with that name who is a
ham in Florida. However, the video on that web page mentions that they were
at a relatives house, so I assume the relative was the ham. In any case, a
real shame.

Re: [DX-CHAT] QRZ.COM down?

2008-06-02 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK
It would appear that their nameservers (ns1.qrz.com and ns2.qrz.com)
are unreachable. A nameserver is like an Internet address book: You
say What is the address of qrz.com and it will respond with an
address (an IP address) which in turn tells your computer, and all of
those pieces of the Internet between you and qrz.com where it is (and,
to some extent, how to get there). The problem is if you can't get to
the address book, you can't find the address, meaning you can't get
to the site.

My guess is that both of their nameservers are located in the same
place, so if they are having a network connectivity issue, or a power
problem, or something similar, you won't be able to get to either one.
Good Internet practice is to have one of the minimum of two
nameservers located in a different location to prevent just such an
issue, but for practical reasons, it's not always possible, especially
for smaller sites.

[DX-CHAT] Operating from the Cayman Islands

2007-05-07 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK

Hello all,
I'm planning on doing a little vacation style operating from Grand
Cayman this summer while on a trip there with my XYL and some (non-ham)
friends. I'm working on getting my ZF2 license (and trying to be patient,
while remembering that things move a lot more slowly in the islands), but
the one thing that I haven't been able to get information about is what are
the operating regulations for the Caymans. (In other words, the Caymanian
equivalent of the FCC Part 97 rules.) When I heard back from the licensing
authority (ICTA), they basically said that they were pretty new at licensing
(I think that it used to be done by Cable Wireless ?) and referred me to
Andrew, ZF1EJ for additional information.

As of yet, I haven't been able to contact Andrew, so I was wondering if
anyone had any information regarding the operating rules for Cayman?

  Thanks.

Re: [DX-CHAT] N8S-IMPORTANT

2007-04-09 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK

Just an educated guess (I work in the IT field), but the up and down
nature of the log website looks like it's probably running into a capacity
issue. When too many users try to connect, it refuses connections, but after
a while, enough users are off the server that it will start running again.

If you get an error trying to access the logs, I'd suggesting waiting a few
minutes and trying again. (Don't just reload the page over and over, that
will just make things worse.)

Good luck.

Gee, only 35 up? As of the time I'm writing this (about 12:30 AM EDT),
he's on 14.022 (and a pretty solid S8 on my G5RV) with guys calling him
all the way up to 14.082. I guess that would be 60 wide, though it
does't look or sound like anyone is calling him below around 14.042, so
I guess he's got a 40kHz wide pileup that starts 20 kHz up from his
frequency. Wow. I guess I'll get him next time ...On 7/31/06, Peter Dougherty [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

think it's OK to drift the pileup from 5 up to 35 up during the courseof the evening??!?!Let me clarify this - that's a CW pileup, NOT PHONE! I really do feelsorry for the poor guy. I think he's trying his best but CW isn't his
native language ;-)Cheers,Peter,W2IRTSubscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problemshttp://njdxa.org/dx-chatTo post a message, DX related items only,
