Cushcraft Sold
Long-time ham-radio manufacturer Cushcraft Corporation announced today
that it has been purchased by U.K. based telecommunications giant Laird
Technologies for $89.75 million in cash. Founded by Lester Cushman in the
40’s and starting out in a Hayward St. Garage, the Manchester NH company
has grown steadily over the years, diversifying into a wide range of
antenna markets to include wireless LAN, WiFi, RFID, WiMAX and more. Last
year, Cushcraft enjoyed annual revenues totaling over $33 million with an
operating profit of $8.9 million. The company, which nearly tripled sales
over the past 3 years, has been one of few to successfully outsource a
large percentage of its annual production without the loss of a single
domestic job. According to a company spokesperson, the Manchester facility
at 48 Perimeter Road will be key to Laird’s expanding strength in
engineering and RF product design.
