Re: [DX-CHAT] ham radio and age
Charlie, Didn't you get any exercise whenever you were stringing up those dipoles and longwires, either in your backyard, or on some of those fine DX-peditions ? C'mon, ham radio can give us a fair amount of exercise, maybe not as much as some hobbies, but walking to the Post Office to mail or pick up the QSL cards from the Post Box, and often a lengthy jaunt around all the tables at a hamfest, while it didn't work up a sweat, sure was good for us ! Or maybe just measuring out the wire for those dipoles, and then tweaking them to get them on frequency certainly was always a step in the right direction. All you have to do is remember how many real or simulated emergency drills, like Field Day, that you participated in, and I think you'll remember all the hard work and exercise you got running back and forth to gas up the generators, and some of the other things that went into Field Day, like getting that temporary tower and beam up and down ... . Now that you think about it, how many other aspects of ham radio got a little bit of exercise into you ? I'll bet everyone of us can think about some events in our long careers as ham radio operators, while not happening every day, were memorable, nonetheless, for how good we felt after all the work that went into getting that station up and running, because there was exercise and physical effort that went into it ! 73, Dennis Kopecky, WJ2R [EMAIL PROTECTED]mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] - Original Message - From: Charles Harpolemailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: dx-chat@njdxa.orgmailto:dx-chat@njdxa.org Sent: Tuesday, January 16, 2007 9:26 PM Subject: [DX-CHAT] ham radio and age The process of getting older can be slowed a bit via uses of ham radio: 1.
