[DX-CHAT] More Shepherd Trivia

2007-06-01 Thread af2c
Earlier in the Shepherd thread, In God we Trust a book by Jean
Shepherd was mentioned. I'm proud to say that I have a copy of the book
and a 1 hour tape I did with him back around 1960 for a college radio station.

Now here is a bit of trivia for all Shep fans. Actually it's a trivia
question:

During many of his broadcasts he mentioned another book. The book never
existed, but the demand became so great, that Shepherd wrote the book under
another name.

What was the title of the book and what name did he use he wrote the book?

Oh yes! I have a copy of the book.

73,
Jay/AF2C

Was it I Libertine written under the pen name Frederick Ewing?

When I was learning Morse Code in the late '70's, I heard Shep's wonderful
introduction to the ARRL Code Practice tape so many times that it was
indelibly engraved in my mind. I took his Stick with It and Concentrate
advice to heart, and nearly 30 years later, still love CW.

Oh, please, that's an easy one: I, Libertine by 'Frederick Ewing'

Shep had his loyal listeners, aka The Night People, request so many copies
of the non-existant book that it actually started to shoot up the best
seller lists!
