4S, SRI LANKA. Denver, 4S7DA, informs OPDX that there is a new operator
on the air from 4S-land. Ranjith, 4S7KM, who is only operational on CW
on 20/15 meters, has been very active. Watch 20 meters 1030 and 1430z.

6J, MEXICO. In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the "Federacion
Mexicana de Radio Experimentadores" (FMRE), the Mexican Government has
authorized all the Mexican radio amateurs to use the special prefix "6J"
instead of "XE" when working DX. Examples: XE2AC can use the 6J2AC,
XE1J --> 6J1J and XE3DX--> 6J3DX. This is valid from August 21st, 2002,
through December 31st, 2002.
Also, look for special event station 6F1LM to commemorate the 70th
anniversary of FMRE to be activated by different hams and radio clubs on
several bands and modes during the rest of the year. A special QSL card will
be sent to each and every contact they made. Please QSL VIA BUREAU ONLY.

7Q, MALAWI. Allan, G0IAS, informs OPDX that Harry (G0JMU), 7Q7HB, is back
here again and will be here for the next 6 weeks. Over the past week, Harry
has been active on 15/10 meters CW/SSB at various times. QSL ONLY DIRECT
to G0IAS (Allan states, "Any other way will not work. I'm not a member
of RSGB... neither is Harry... and there is NO BUREAU in Malawi.....").
Allan also mentions that when the Doc says he is fit enough, he may go
for an extended visit maybe 6 months or so to visit Ron (7Q7RM). They
will TRY to get something up for 160.
9M6, EAST MALAYSIA. Shun, JH7IMX, will be active as 9M6LSC from September
26th through October 1st. He will participate in the CQ/RJ Worldwide DX
Contest, RTTY (September 28-29th) as a Single Op/All Band entry. QSL via
JH7IMX.
AFRICIAN ACTIVITY. Ed, ON7UN, will leaving Belgium at the end of the month
and will be working in Africa. During the first week in October he is
expected to be in the Dem. Rep. of Congo (9Q). He has requested for a
license and has received confirmation for the license. He will operate
from there with the 9Q5** callsign. He is also expected to travel to
Brazaville, Republic of Congo (TN), probably during the second week.
He will also try to obtain a license from the TN country. Ed will be
using the equipment in the Belgium Embassies (a KLM log periodic antenna
and 500 watt). Over the next 6 months, Ed will be visiting Kenya (5Z),
Tanzania (5H), Gabon (TR), Angola (D2) and possible other African countries
because of his work. QSL via ON4ACA.
C9, MOZAMBIQUE (Update). As mentioned in OPDX.574 Babs/DL7AFS and Lot/DJ7ZG
will be active again from here as C98DC. Their 2 weeks activity will start
around September 24th. Activity will be from Bazaruto Island in the northern
part of Mozambique (IOTA AF-072). They will operate SSB on the usual DX
frequencies. Also, look for operations on RTTY/PSK on 18101 kHz as well.

CN, MOROCCO. Jim, W7EJ, is expected to be active as CN2R in the CQWW DX

DXCC NEWS. Bill Moore, NC1L, ARRL DXCC Manager, reports the following
operations have been approved for DXCC credit:
BURUNDI - 9U5A (Valid from May 28, 2002, to May, 27, 2003)
BHUTAN - A52ED - (October 23rd through November 1st, 2001)
A52OM - (January 1st through February 5th, 2002)
UGANDA - 5X1CW - (March 19, 2002, through March 1, 2003)
FO, FRENCH POLYNESIA. Jean-Luc, F5AEP, is expected to stay in Papeete for
the next two years starting on September 1. Currently his callsign has
not been anounced yet. Over the next two years Jean-Luc also plans to
visit several other islands like the Marquesas or Gambier Island.
FS, FRENCH ST. MARTIN. Look for Ann/W2AZK, Brian/KF2HC, Gene/K2KJI,
Maryann/K2RVH, Bob/W5GJ and Mike/WA2VUN to sign FS/homecall from December
4-11th. The group hopes to have 2 stations on HF and 1 station on 6 meters.
Operations will be CW, SSB, and possibly some PSK31. They plan to
participate in the ARRL 160M Contest that weekend. QSL to the callsign

GU, GUERNSEY. Rainer/DL2MDZ and Gerhard/DL3NBL will be active October
11-27th from the Island of Guernsey, IOTA EU-114. Using a KW, activity
will be on 160-10 meters, including the WARC band. DL2MDZ will use CW/RTTY
and DL3NBL will use SSB/RTTY. QSL via their homecall.
IOTA NEWS......................
AF-077. Barry, ZS1FJ, reports he plans to be active as ZS23I from the
Cape Province South Coast Group on September 28th for one or
two days. Activity will be mostly on 17/12 meters. QSL via
ZS1FJ.
AS-066. John, RW0MM/p, and some potential YL members of the Vladivostok
Contest Club will be active from Russkij Island (RR-16-02)
between September 7-9th during their IOTA holiday. They will
participate in the IARU (Reg.1) Field Day. Activity will be
on all HF bands CW/SSB on the usual IOTA frequencies. Depending
on local conditions, they will try to operate from one or more
lighthouses (RLHA-New) on the military island. QSL via UA3DX.

AS-147. Take, JI3DST, will be active as JI3DST/8 once again from
Okushiri Island (Okushiri-cho Okushiri-gun Hokkaidou) from
October 25-28th. Activity will be on 70/17/15/12/10/6 meters
SSB and in the CQWW SSB Contest. QSL via JI3DST (through the
Bureau ONLY).
EU-004. Christian, DL6KAC, will once again be active from Mallorca
Island (DIE: E-021) starting September 5th until the end of
September / beginning of October (return flight not yet booked).
Activity will be on 80-10 meters, mainly SSB. Antennas will
be dipoles on the high bands and Inverted L for 40/80m. Power
will be 350 watts. He might include some activity in the WAE
SSB Contest. This will be a holiday style operation. QSL via
the DARC bureau or direct (qrz.com).
EU-020. Hardy/DL3KWF and his wife Rosel/DL3KWF will be active from
Gotland Island September 2-13th. They will sign SM1/homecall
and be active on CW during the morning and evening hours. QSL

EU-062. The Namdal Group of NRRL will be active as LA7N/p and take
part in the Region 1 Field Day between 1300z, September 7th
and 1300z September 8th. The multi-operation will take place
on Borgan Island (LOC JP54KX) with five stations on 160-10
meters SSB/CW/PSK/RTTY, 6m, 2m and 70cm SSB-FM, also some
satellite operation. You will find them 5-10 kHz below the
usual IOTA-frequences (+/-QRM):
CW - 1825, 3525, 7025, 14025, 21025 and 28025
SSB - 1850, 3750, 7050, 14250, 21250 and 28450 kHz
QSL via SM5SIC.
EU-120. Look for DK1RF to be active as M/DK1RF from the English Islands
Group between September 7-13th. QSL via home call.
SA-040
SA-078. Pedro, HK3JJH, will be active from Isla Palma (SA-078),
September 6-9th and Isla del Pirata (Rosario Island - SA-040)
from September 11-12th. Suggested frequencies are: 28460,
21260 and 14260 kHz (+/- QRM). His callsign will be HK3JJH/1.

IS0, SARDINIA. Hartmut/DM5TI and Thomas/DL2RMC will be active from here
between September 4-13th. Activity will be on 160-6 meters on CW/SSB/RTTY/

JD1, OGASAWARA (75 Years Commemorative DXpedition of JARL). Toshi, JA1ELY,
Project Planner, informs OPDX that they are pleased to announce that several
Japanese groups will operate as 8N1OGA from Ogasawara Islands. The islands
are located about 1,000 kilometers south of Tokyo and can only be reached
by taking a 25 hour boat trip from Tokyo. Between September 15th and the
end of January 2003, the special station will be active to commemorate 75
years since Japan Amateur Radio League (JARL) was founded. Preliminary
license has been already issued by Japanese Telecommunication authority,
which permits all modes including satellite and one kilo watt output on
normal bands and 500 watts on 6 meter band. They will operate two complete
stations with yagi beams on self supporting towers and dipoles and GP
antennas for low bands. They will aggressively participate in upcoming
major DX contests such as the CQWW Phone, CQWW CW and JIDX Phone Contest.
They will particularly be looking for Europe and the East Coast of North
America on low bands (For them to be able to do this, they will put up
antennas that can be viewed over the Pacific Ocean!!)

LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY AND NEWS...................
The Radio Amateur Society of Norwich, N1NW, will be active between
1000z September 7th through 1600z September 8th from New London Ledge
Lighthouse (ARLHS USA-542). This lighthouse is located in New London
County, New London harbor, New London, CT. Suggested frequencies are:
7270, 14270, 21370 and 28370 kHz. QSL via Radio Amateur Society of
Norwich, PO Box 329, Norwich, CT 06360.
Members of the Natal Digital Group (NDG) will activate Lighthouse Bacopari
(DFB RN-08) on September 6-8th and participate in the DARC 10-Meter
Digital Contest. Look for operators PS7ZZ, PS7TKS and PS7KC to be active
on all bands SSB, CW, RTTY, and PSK-31 as ZW7NDG. QSL to Manager is
PS7ZZ (bureau or direct to: Francisco Edvaldo P de Freitas,
Av. Sao Miguel dos Caribes, 31 - Conj Jiqui, 59086-500 Natal, Rio Grande
do Norte, Brazil)
The Radio Amateur Union of North Aegean will be active during their
"FIELD DAY 2002" using the special callsign SZ8LH, and will activate
at the same time the Lighthouse Megalonisi (Lesvos Island, NUMBER:
GR-7130, Grid Locator: 39N12, 25E50 and IOTA EU-049). Operators will
be SV8QG, SV8CRI, SV8DCY, SV8DTD, SV8DBO, SV8DCW, SV8BEV and SV8DTL.
Activity will be on 160-2 meters on all mode.
LN CONTEST PREFIX FOR NORWAY. Tom, LA4LN, reports: "The Norwegian Post and
Telecommunications Authority has recently issued a permit for Norwegian club
stations to substitute their ordinary LA prefix with the rare LN prefix
during certain HF contests. The first opportunities will be the contests
All Asian (Sept. 7-8th), WAE (Sept. 14-15th), SAC (Sept. 21-22nd & 28-29t),
and CQ WW RTTY DX (Sept. 28-29th). Most Norwegian club stations now use
2-by-1 calls (deceased old-timers' calls; like for instance LA1V), and
would in most cases accept QSL to their ordinary LA call. The LN prefix
has only been in use once before on amateur radio. This happened in 1995
in commemoration of the 50th anniversary for the liberation of Norway
after the 2nd World War, when some LN stations were active, like LN1V
(QSL via LA4LN). LN1V will now resurface in some of the above mentioned
contests; activity is especially planned for the CQWW RTTY DX Contest.
For the SAC (Scandinavian Activity Contest) the NRAU (Nordic Radio Amateur
Union) recently decided to accept the LN prefix for Norway in the contest
rules for 2002."
OJ0, MARKET REEF. Remeber to look for the "QLF DX TEAM" to be active this
week from here through September 9th. Operators LA5UKA, LA6YEA, LA8SDA,
LA9VDA and OJ0/LB1NE (along with possibly OH0RJ) will be active as OJ0LA.
Activity will be on CW/SSB, maybe some RTTY, and on 160-10 meters with
special attention paid to the high and low bands. QSL OJ0LA to LA9VDA.

P4, ARUBA. Jacobo, P43P, is expected to be active as P40B in the CQ/RJ
WW DX Contest (RTTY) as a Single Op/All Band entry. Also, P43P is expected
to be active as P40B in the CQWW DX SSB Contest as a Single Op/All Band
entry. QSL via I2MQP.
P5, NORTH KOREA. According to Bruce, KK5DO, there have been reports that
Ed, P5/4L4FN, has been on CW and these QSNs are false. Ed still has to
repair his antennas. A co-worker that was helping Ed has left the country
permanently for another assignment. So this will increase Ed's work duties
and limit his radio activities to the weekends.
QSL INFO AND NEWS.................
Tony, W4FOA, informs OPDX that Lawrence, 9N7RB, is now officially QRT,
effective Friday, August 23, 2002. During his period of activity,
Lawrence made 12,000 QSOs with 289 countries and was responsible for
putting 9N in the logs of many for a new country, especially on CW.
QSLs for his activity may be sent via W4FOA, preferably via direct.
Bureau cards will be answered on a time available basis. Lawrence's
equipment and antennas will be left behind in Nepal.
Robert, S53R, informs OPDX readers of the following:
1) All direct requests for A52KR and AP2ARS were answered during
July/August. There were no cards pending when he left home.
2) AP2ARS - Please note that Robert does not handle any AP2ARS QSLs
anymore. From January 1, 2002, all QSLs (bureau/direct) for
AP2ARS / A52KR are handeled by K2PF. So, for you who have already
sent BUREAU cards to Robert (even the ones for 2001), please
resend to K2PF because he will not have time to answer.
3) YA5T - again do not send the cards to Robert. All cards for YA5T
go via KU9C!!!
PLEASE NOTE: Robert states that he is receiving plenty of IRC coupons
NOT stamped in his requests. Most of them have come from Germany!
They are not exchangable at the post offices so those QSLs were
replied via bureau.
Hisato, 7K1WLE, who was on Easter Island (CE0Y) from July 18-24th (2002),
informs OPDX that he worked 3,100 QSOs on HF and has put up a Web page

Don Field, G3XTT, D68C Publicity Manager, reports that he has finished
processing all of the incoming requests for D68C cards on hand. A large
quantity of cards will be despatched shortly to the RSGB bureau. The
confirmed QSO count stands at 80692. That's 47.8%, and almost certainly
a record for number of confirmed QSOs for a single DXpedition. Phil is
still receiving at least one direct request most days! The team thanks
Phil for his efforts.
Miro, UT7WZ, reports that all cards for EN1WJP (Special Event Station
in June, 2001, for Pope John Paul's visit to the Ukraine) have been all
confirmed direct or via bureau. All cards were sent automatically via
the bureau in early 2002. If anyone still needs a card, please E-mail

Richard, WD4IKI, reports that he is NOT the QSL Manager for the current
HH2CQ operations.
Fred, K3ZO, reports that in a recent bureau shipment he received QSLs
for S21DM. He states that he is NOT the QSL Manager for S21DM and has
nothing to do with QSL arrangements for S21DM.
Many have been reporting that they have been receiving their S9LA QSL
cards in mail.
Yann, F5NBU, reports that he is not the QSL Manager for the recent TM4T
opetion. QSL TM4T via F6HLC (not via F5NBU). However, Yann is the QSL
Manager for the 1994 CQWW SSB Contest TM4T only.
Temir, UN7OP, has changed his callsign and will be active starting
September 1st as UN1O. QSL via IK2QPR: Paolo Fava, via Bertani 8,
46100 Mantova, ITALY.
Mike, K9AJ, reports, "For those waiting for their Henderson Island QSL
(VP6AJ and VP6VT) from March 2002, there is good news: the balance of
the QSL order arrived today (August 30th) from the printer, IT9EJW.
QSL Manager N9TK will be working on answering the outstanding QSLs.

in Indonesia.
YE2R was active from Karimunjawa (OC-186) during August 28th-September
1st. QSL via EA7FTR.
R1, ANTARCTICA. It has been reported that Oleg, R1ANF/A, will be active
from the "Great Wall Base" (WABA BY-01) until the end of September. Look
for him to be active every Monday on 21275 kHz starting at 1700z. Also,
Oleg is expected to activate the Uruguyan Base "Artigas" (WABA CX-01)
during the month of September. QSL via RK1PWA. PLEASE NOTE: WABA stands
for "World Antarctic Base Award".
RU1, EUROPEAN RUSSIA. Operators UA1AKC, UA1ARX, RW1AC, RV1AW, RN1AM and
RA1ACJ will be active in the CQ/RJ RTTY Contest as RU1A as a Multi/Single
entry. Look for them on 80 meters (3 element yagi). Their sunrise/sunset
is: 0350/1540z. Operators RU1AA, RW1AC, RV1AW, UA1ARX, RN1AM, RX1AA,
RA1ACJ and possibly others, will be active from ZONE 16 in the CQWW CW
Contests as RU1A as a Multi/2 Band entry. Look for them on 160 meters
(2 element yagi) and 80 meters (3 element yagi). Their sunrise/sunset
is: 0550/1320z. Also, look for RU1A to be active in the CQWW SSB Contest
as a Multi/2 Band entry by operators RW1AC, RV1AW, UA1ARX, RN1AM, RX1AA
and possibly others. Their sunrise/sunset during this contest is:
0450/1400z. QSL both operations via RU1AE or via the bureau.
SPECIAL EVENT. The Radio Club Station SP9KDU from the Polish town of
Tarnowskie Gory will be active using the special callsign SN9TG to
celebrate a holiday there. Operations will be from September 1-8th with
activity on SSB, CW and FM. QSL to SP9KDU via the Bureau (prefered) or
direct via callbook address.
TO5, MARTINIQUE. Albert, NH7A, will be active in the CQWW DX SSB Contest
(October 26-27th) as a Single Op/All Band entry. Callsign is not yet known
but it will be TO5(something). QSL via F5VHJ.
TY, BENIN. Pat, I8QLS, informs OPDX that he will be active with Piero,
W1NA/I8CZW and Gino, I8ULL, from Benin between October 19-28th. During
the CQWW Phone Contest, I8QLS will take part as a Single Op/10m entry,

contest they will focus on the low bands, WARC bands, 6 meters and CW.

V6, MICRONESIA IOTA TOUR 2002. The Diamond DX Club has announced that
three of their members ( Nando/IT9YRE, Gaetano/IT9GAI and Claudio/I1SNW)
will be active as V63RE, V63GH and V63WN. They will activate Nomwin Island
(OC-NEW) from October 24-27th and Etal Island (OC-NEW) from October 30th

ZD7, ST. HELENA. Gilbert, ZD7BG, has been active around 2330z on 14013
kHz (also around 0745z) with a fairly good signal. Anyone needing ZD7 on
CW, this would be a good catch. There was also a QSN of Gilbert on
18080 kHz around 2245z. Meanwhile, Carlos, ZD7CY, has been active on
15/10 meters SSB. Watch 21305 and 28450 kHz between 2030-2330z.
ZK1, NORTH AND SOUTH COOK ISLAND (News by ZK1CG). During the month of
September, Victor, ZK1CG, will once again be using the "ZK1USA" as his
callsign to show support for September 11th victims from the South Cook
Islands. Also, four YL hams will be in the South Cook Islands operating
with the callsign ZK1XYL between October 1-15th. Victor states, "This is
the first time South Cooks has seen this many YL's operating in the Cooks
at one time." Jim/ZK1JD, Victor/ZK1CG, Tuatai/ZK1CY (South Cooks) and
ZK1MA (North Cooks) will welcome these young YL hams to Rarotonga, South
Cook. They will bring along a OM ham to be their GOFER during their stay
in the Cooks. Victor, ZK1CG, is still looking for some hams to come to
the Cooks for the CQWW SSB Contest in October to help run a contest station
from the South Cooks. If you're a fast talker and interested please contact

The group (plus a new member) that was on the North Cooks last year for
CQ WW SSB Contest will be going back to the North Cooks in October for

(NOTE: Some FAX machines that send single "BEEPS" every second will not
have to do this step.) 3) The phone will pick up and after the "BEEP"
