Spring Equinox = Polar Path Propagation Peak

This is the season to work that difficult Polar Path DX on the High
Bands. 
  
During the past 2 years, N4KG has worked literally hundreds of Asians 
(non-JA) in CQ Zones 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 
on each of the High Bands, i.e. 10, 12, 15, and 17M, short path from 
early March through mid April.  Openings begin around local Sunrise 
and Sunset, lasting for 2 to 3 hours.  
 
20M and 30M propagation is typically Short Path in the evenings and may 
be either Short Path or Long Path in the mornings for different
locations.

The main frequencies for this operation are 21.020 for
CW and 21.295 for SSB  twenty-four hours a day.  Note,
please, that the expedition will have both fifteen
meter frequencies QRV at the same time.


Other frequencies are


14.195  for SSB and 14.020  for CW,


28.495 for SSB


If conditions on the  higher bands are poor,  they 
will use  7045 for  SSB and 7005  for CW.


The operators will  not be QRV  on 75/80/160 and  on
WARC  until the last part of the operation. A
frequency for CW on WARC will be announced later.


The starting date  will be released when I have their
estimated time of arrival.  The call will not be
released until the last minute.

[DX-NEWS] FT101E ?

Hello All,

would any kind DXer who still happens to have an old FT101E in the shack kindly take a 
look at the ACC socket on the back and let me know which pins (its 1 and 2 but there 
is no indication on the socket which is which) need to be crossed for the heaters. I 
just got gifted an old rig from a SK estate and would like to fire it up from time to 
time, and the ACC plug is missing.

Hello, friends
Kan, JA1BK and Jin, JF1IST are about to
fly off Narita Airport, Japan in a few hours.
The Team will set up 15m/20m dipole antenna
as soon as they get on the Braveheart.
We can expect them on the air as /MM
sometime on 13th or on 14th by local time.
Hope that many stations will be able to work with them
when they arrive on the new entity, Ducie Is!

Read as much as you can on Propagation in the ARRL Handbook,
Antenna Book, CQ Books, RSGB Books, and LISTEN on the radio 
on all bands, at all hours, during all seasons, and all parts of the sun
spot cycle.  SUMMER propagation is unlike any other season,
with LOWER MUF's due to solar heating of the ionosphere and
higher absorption and noise on the lower frequencies.

You will find the propagation programs are generally true, but often
underestimate MUF's and don't show important enhancements at 
sunrise and sunset that appear on the Low Bands.

Once you have a basic feel for how each band behaves at 
Sunrise and Sunset, the BEST propagation guide is a
Terminator Map such as the DX Edge or a Mapping Program
that shows regions of daylight and dark.  W6ELPROP is a
good free program available on the web.  The maps are
EXCELLENT.  I find the high band predictions to be 
'conservative', i.e., the bands usually open earlier and
stay open later than shown.

Participating in DX Contests is a good place to observe propagation,
perhaps staying on a single band per contest to get a feel for how that
band plays around the clock.  Do this at high, medium, and low sunspot
activity levels.

Sorry guys...from a of couple of directs I received from guys that know
me well, I didn't mean to give the impression that ALL the branches were
anti-IRC.  I just wanted to point out that the bunches that I sold
locally were sold for that reason...it was easier to deal with the money
than the USPO (sounds like same as Joe W3HNK

Again..sorry for the bad spin, but I guess life doesn't get simpler,
but only more efficient(?)
